Skyrim

Post by Rob »

Dear draft teammates,

I was almost late to the match last night, impatient with the other team, and very curt during the whole ordeal.

I apologize, but I was fighting a fucking dragon right outside of Whiterun and I wasn't going to be denied its soul for anything, certainly not a dod match.

Anyone else really into this game right now?

I can't get into the lore of these games so much, but I like joining the cults and trying to fuck people up with cheats.

Dude I saw my first random dragon flying overhead today and shat myself, but it was actually quite killable. Only problem was a fucking sabre cat came out of nowhere in the middle of the fight and killed me :(

I was really looking forward to this game, but my roommates downloaded it a few days before it got released and haven't stopped playing it since.

I didn't care for oblivion much, but i really enjoyed morrowind.

I feel you on Oblivion. Morrowind was so, so much better. But Skyrim really is a return to form. I'm loving it.

put in almost 40 hours over the weekend. i am in some real fucking trouble with this game.

to put this in context, i have maybe 50+ hours in fallout 3, and i've finished the main quest, done every side quest, completed all the DLC, explored every town, cleared every dungeon, gotten all the unique weapons, etc

and 25-30 hours in skyrim was mainly just doing the thieves guild and dark brotherhood quests. that is some fuck right there

speaking of dark brotherhood they added what thye should have had in oblivion: night mother will give you random contacts to meet with and they in turn will give you assassination targets. infinite assassinations. shit is so cash

i really can't explain how good this game is, they trimmed a lot of the fat from previous games and refined everything else to be really satisfying. only complaint i could make is the UI is shit but most of the time i don't notice.

p.s. also the dungeons are not fucking awful they are really well done this time, go figure

I have the Dark Brotherhood starter quest waiting for me, where you go find and talk to some kid that has been wanting to join, but I'm hesitant to start it. When I finished the Dark Brotherhood quest line in Oblivion everything else was just bland by comparison, so I want to take DB slowly in Skyrim...

I put in massive time over the (long) weekend as well. I joined the Companions and did all the quests. I won't spoil it for you guys (you will probably google it anyway), but you get something really cool out of doing it. The graphics are ok, but I've been spoiled by Battlefield 3 on ultra settings the past month. The interface is indeed pretty shit, but it was optimized for the console, so go figure. There will be mods released eventually that will fix the interface (once they release the dev kit).

My guy is specialized in archery, sneak, one-handed, light armor, and blacksmithing. I can one shot most normal targets with my bow while sneaking, as well as do 1 hit assassinations on them with daggers. Only problem with going for pure sneak is that my light armor / one-handed don't get leveled as much, so if I'm forced into a melee with the target I take more damage / deal less damage. It definitely adds an element of strategy to the game that I like, though.

The graphics are pretty weak. If you spend a minute or two on google you'll find several mods that optimize the graphics and make everything look really nice.

I don't know if any of you have developed headaches while playing this. But if you have try adjusting your FOV settings, from what I hear default is leading a lot of people to have a constant headache after a while of playing.

1: The companion quests was fun, but i got kind of dissapointed in the end :/.
2: When you got high skill in archery do you raise your bow and shoot faster? Or is it just damage, crit etc that increases?

I think the graphics are awesome, but I'm just comparing them to oblivion, and fallout 3 and such, so I think they're a huge step forward for these types of games. It looks really good on my pc with everything maxed

I'm pretty sure there's perks in Archery that make you draw your bow 30% faster and move faster with a drawn bow. There's also ones that give you crit, more damage, a zoom mode while drawn, a slow down time mode while zoomed, and one that causes you to stagger the opponent way more often. As far as I know, actual skill level has nothing to do with draw rate or fire rate.

Thinking of starting a stealth character now.

Is Illusion as ridiculously overpowered as I've heard?

illusion isnt very useful if you're going stealth IMO, it's mostly crowd control

i rolled for a bosmer thief/assassin type and i never use magic really. once you get a few perks in 1h/archery + the bonuses from thieves/brotherhood armor you can basically stay undetected forever and 1 shot everything

Not really. Once you get around 50-60 archery, you are already doing so much damage. You will kill most shit in 1 shot from sneak. Hell, I've killed most high level stuff (that I can't handle in melee) by shooting them from sneak, letting them try to find me, and then hitting them again while they are running back.

i've rolled a 2x sword and destro magic character that was an epic fail.

dual wield lighting magic w/ stealth bow seems to take care of everything.
