Ski Movie
Friend of mine showed me this in class the other day. I don't even ski, but the cinematography is amazing, and then halfway through it starts to pick up with a really nice run. Just some really good camera work, also kinda cool because this is the next town over from where I'm living now.

Re: Ski Movie
Holy snow, that's a cool movie. never been a huge skiing fan (board sports all the way) but that was amazing. I nearly shit myself when i saw the backflip.
Any idea what kind of camera was used to film it?
since we got off the snow sport subject, you guys should check out "Tahiti, the ultimate wave" It's a 3d film, but with a little effort you can get it to play normally. It follows kelly slater on a trip to go surf the teahpuu(sp?) break, has some beautiful shots of the island and the coral reefs of the area, not really a surfing movie as much as a movie of the people's culture and how surfing's a big part of it.

If you haven't seen it, I suggest you turn it on! Amazingly filmed as well.

Yeah, sandbox vids were always awesome, we need more, rusty!
Re: Ski Movie
Not exactly snow related, but it does feature boards... Factor in this wave breaks upon itself over slabs of rock and the water is at most 40 degrees blowing straight out of the Antartic in the dead of winter... Hard to find a wave that's this big of a mutant anywhere in the world besides chops or some slabs in the British Isles..

Re: Ski Movie
and one more.. epic tow session at chops this past summer... wave is as thick as it is tall breaking below sealevel over a coral bed that's 1ft or so down if you fuck up

Re: Ski Movie
I halfway expected a blood mist to shoot out of that last wave crushing that dude.

If I remember right he got a dislocated shoulder and multiple cuts / reef rash all over from that one.. definitely not something to trifle with

Re: Ski Movie
Too lazy to look for it, but there is a video of a guy hitting the reef, and you can see a gnarly bloodmist fly out of the wave.mogers wrote:I halfway expected a blood mist to shoot out of that last wave crushing that dude.
Wow, holy fucking mutant wave. Don't want to get barreled in that.
Re: Ski Movie
chopes is no joke... the second video is probably the biggest tow in conditions they've ever had at Tahiti over the summer.. Winter swell blew right out of the antartic and thru the roaring 40s and slamming into there during the middle of billabong's ASP surfing world tour stop... such a sick place

Re: Ski Movie
That first video, you can see smaller waves breaking in the larger ones....that's inSANE. Gotta be one huge adrenaline rush...jeezus...
4:15 or so in the first video...yeah...wouldn't want to be that guy.
Final edit: What kind of speeds do they reach? They were absolutely flying in that second video.

on the plus side of 30mph or so, just depends on the wave..
respect for anyone who charges into those tho
