I have no doubt that Caroll will be a hit rather than a miss. He was bought for 5years not 6months. The system we are playing right now doesn’t suit Caroll. Downing was brought in to whip in beautiful cross but has however FAILED. :x

The last couple of games he played under Kenny he looked like his old self. El Cunto jumped shipped at the first possible opportunity. So much for saying you'll never play for another English club eh, Torres?

can't really blame him with how dismal the reds were and how uncertain their future was at the time...

Doesn't matter he was bought for the future, he will never be good enough to justify a 35mil price tag.... Liverpool loves overspending for overhyped, under preforming English talent though.. Downing, Henderson, Carroll... combined 70-75 mil for those 3? lol.

Oh well, I have no regrets at all. We got 50mill for him and I'm happy with that. Interesting that he told Suarez to come to Liverpool but then leaving couple days later. I wonder if those 2 would have been a deadly combo. In terms of Caroll, he will never be a 35mill player. At best he would be 20. Downing was overpriced but we were calling out for a decent winger with a good crossing ratio. I can understand why we bought Henderson because I think one day he will captain England. Well either him or Phil Jones

Can't see being a captain of England as a good thing.. :P Downing has 0 assists/goals this season and can't even get a shot on target :P Liverpool should go ahead and find David Bentley and sign him up as well, as long as they're looking for useless wingers

Prices in January are always nuts though... I think Carroll was valued 20 mil too much (15mil seems reasonable?) and Torres, maybe 30-35mil???

Can just be like Arsenal, sell our skipper / top 5 midfielder in the world for a cut price to Barca.. Oh well.

Chelsea paid like £41 million I think to separate Torres from LIverpool.

Thought it was closer to 50 but either way way too much, but some transfers are weird and way too much either way.. Inter was laughing all the way to the bank for 45mil + Et'to for the swede for example :O BTW Ballack had the better mask between him and Cech :P

Regardless, teams have way too much money to dish out on players who let them down. Every rich club makes these ridiculous purchases, bringing in these players who don't work well with the current play style.

Anyone see the draw for Euro 2012?

Group A: Poland, Greece, Russia, Czech Republic
Group B: Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Portugal
Group C: Spain, Italy, Ireland, Croatia
Group D: Ukraine, Sweden, France, England

Group B looks horrifying

England will find a way to fuck up the second easiest group, and all the teams in group A shouldn't even be in the tournament... B/C are going to make for some fun group matches.. Croats are gonna upset Italy and make it out of the group

England will at least make it out of group stages, you'd have to play with 8 to lose to the Ukraine and sweeden.
I'm kinda surprised by the teams that made it. Back during qualifying I didn't expect to see over half these sides.

And as always, Hup Holland

England can manage to fuck up their group, they nearly did last year against the mighty powerhouses that is USA/Algeria/Slovenia....

historically bad against Sweden.. Serious away disadvantage playing Ukraine in Donesk I believe, and then France which completely outclassed them and played them off the pitch last year in Wembley...

I guess it's going to be an upset if either Denmark or Portugal come out of group B, although C looks pretty wide open.. People are underestimating Croatia it seems and Italy hasn't looked the same since Cassano went out with his heart problem.. Hopefully we can watch Italy crash and burn...

Haha, I'm starting to remember a few sweeden v england games now that you mention it, but don't remember any bad luck. If anything you guys had good luck not losing to sweden in 02(lolol) and 06(amazing cole goal).

Group C will by far be the most entertaining, and you right about Croatia, they're always a contending underdog. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see the croats and spanish come out of this group. Ireland isn't a bad side, but unfortunately they're far from consistent.

Group B will be intense, Denmark has no chance. Holland has had a few retirements, but still has the skills of RVP, kuyt, robben, MVB, etc. their choices on keepers are also huge after the retirement of VDS, as the eredivisie has some incredible goal tenders. Germany is a good side with a good head coach, but I don't see them beating Holland. However I'd love to see the krauts advance with the dutch :D

Stekelenburg will wear the #1 for the Dutch... He was great for the national team in the past year and is having a consistent season at AS Roma this year...

England has only beaten Sweden once in the past 44 years (2 weeks ago in a friendly was the only time.....) and yea, the J. Cole goal against them is one of the only standout highlights of the WC2006 for England besides Owen Hargreaves, and we all know how his knees treated him at Bayern and then Man U... such a shame, he was an amazing player :\

Barca has been so sketchy away from the nou camp this season so far... I don't see them coming into the bernabeu and winning against the best looking madrid team in 10 years or so... They're firing on all cylinders.. I expect 3-1 Real.. can't wait to watch though, kinda upset that I don't have GOLTV so forced to watch on espn deportes but it'll still be epic

england might = football, but their players have no idea how to act as a team and the entire youth system is assfucked as hell... Netherlands produces such a large proportion of world class talents compared to their population size.. down to how they educate their kids.. Football in England is "over the top, chase it down and energy/commitment will make up the skill difference, where as countries such as spain, netherlands, germany etc have adapted the much more technical approach to educating their youth and it's paying large dividends...

Dosen't England have that system were they can pick up players from their former colonies? I know France had that, so they just picked up all good players in their former colonies.

I think there was a law passed in the 1990s that limited who you play for in the UK from the Commonwealth down to simple naturalization of 5 years. So, me living here in Scotland, if I did so for the next 5 years and applied for citizenship, then I could become eligible for the English team.

However, only Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and England are freely allowed to pick amongst which team in the UK they want to play for, and they can only do so once. Hence, when Ryan Giggs picked to play for Wales he did so because his grandmother or grandfather had been an Welsh national.

Yeah, I think The Russian realizes the problems are not with coaching but with the players at this point. Hopefully Torres goes back to Spain for some team like Valencia where it won't be quite as demanding and he can find his groove again.

Chelsea is old. They show it. Lampard being left off the roster this past week speaks volumes.

The English have talent, it's just purely mismanaged. To that I do add they don't have near the dedication to the 1 sport as Germany, Spain, or the Netherlands. There is a ton of emphasis here on Rugby, Cricket, etc. So you're going to have good athletes going multiple routes. Couple that with the fact many players will be playing for Scotland, Wales, or Northern Ireland, and it further reduces the talent pool.

However, 4000+ hours makes a huge difference.

Couldn't England go together with Wales, Scottland and North Ireland go together and form one team under the UK? I think they'd be dominating pretty bad if they did.

And i don't see why they havent done that yet, since England Wales Scottland and North Ireland actually is UK/GB.

It's not that they don't want to. A lot of Welsh and a lot of Scottish have played for the English team. It's really just in the last 5 to 10 years where the expectations have risen to stay home.

Welsh soccer is awful and Wales absolutely does not care about it. So, why would you play for that? Wales cares about Rugby, that's it. Their sole purpose in life is rugby.
