wetsuits

Post by dane »

I'm guessing there isn't anyone who wears one here save maybe James or something, but i'm in the need of a new suit for 45-60 degree waters and don't want to break my fragile bank.. (trying to buy a name kane garden as it is and they're kinda pricey) SUGGESTIONS DOD COMMUNITY? lol

get a 4/3 thick suit that pulls over the head and zips across your upper chest as opposed to down the back. quiksilver makes some good ones that aren't expensive.

what size do you need? I actually have an abundance of wetsuits and need to get rid of some.

If you want to go new, I'd check out the hammer line from Oneil. They retail for a little over a hundred and I've had one for a long long time and haven't even fucked up the stitching. Quiksilver also has a entry level suit that goes for the same price, can';t think of the name.

oh and huge rep for the kane garden. are you from the SD area? I'm sick of every board I see being an al merrik

PS, Eric oregon is for pansies, go surf alaska swells.

nope not from SD but KG's are fun/fast as shit.. surfed my buddies KG Twin Keel Fish for awhile.. Honestly one of the most responsive/fun boards I've surfed... Tried my buddies Proton Al Merrick, and it was OK but I enjoyed the KG and was able to do a whole lot more with it than the Merrick... Normally I'm on my longboard tho.. (9'6 Robert August Corky Carroll) because honestly it's Texas and we might get 10-15 days in a year where it's actually fun to surf a shortboard.. plus on overhead + days it's always fun dropping in on a huge ass log.. I'm 5'11 James, ~160 and wear a 32 if that helps.. Usually Largeish is good

Also Dan, no thanks. I don't really have any fat on me so I freeze quick as shit, springsuit is for fatties who have blubber to sta y warm in the cold.. I'll admit I'm a pussy when it comes to cold water/temp.. Happens when where you live is 90 degrees or above 9 months outta the year and the water is always 75-88 degrees... :P

no thanks.. cold water + kelp beds + sharks + massive waves when the swells hit it right.. I'll stick to my warm water 3-12ft range... this summer/fall really sucked though, no hurricanes and only 2 really good tropical storm swells throwing 6-10ft waves for maybe 12hr windows both times... Got some fun waves outta them though + was on the weather channel for their stupid hurricane tracker bullshit with the reporter on the beach

You can surf in texas? lolol

I lived there for 8+ years and never once even thought about trying out surfing. Then again, I did live in dallas so it's a few hours to the closest beach. The only time I remember being at a texas beach was down in corpus christi, and it was so flat it would make a longboarder cry.

I've never been a big fan of short boards myself, either. I'm about 6' 4", so I really only ride 7+ footers, right now my board of choice is a 7' 4" gun. It's made by a california company called freeflow, although I'm not sure they're still in buisness. It gives me the same mobility that I'd have on a 6 footer, and still lets me get the good waves on overhead + days. Longboards are fun too, I learned to surf on a shitty shitty 9 footer with glass-ons, during the summer on horrible waves, on a horrible rocky beach. They're just so simple and easy to get waves with, although I never really mastered walking around on the board and nose riding.

As far as suits go, I have a M/T 4/3 quiksilver suit that i've been trying to sell on craigslist. But that would probably be too warm for tejas waters.

nothing amazing but ya, there's surf in texas.. summer is really, really flat though.. You can go weeks without a rideable wave leaving you without much to do besides snorkel/spearfish and regular fishing, but make the best outta a bad situation basically

btw that's corpus christi heh :P
