Attention Alex Kirk
I'm enjoying Zen & The Art. About half way through. It's mostly very cool ideas, articulated very well, but unfortunately spliced with statements that make me think shreddies wrote it. Overall though, very fun.

I just finished and will reread some concepts again. He basically attempts to overturn Greek philosophy and the foundation of Western thought towards the end of the book. Whether you buy it is based on personal beliefs, but I identified with quite a bit of it. Let me know when you finish so we can talk Quality!

I think you meant: Attention Nig Gerk.

Extremely challenging read. Basically attempts to overthrow much of Greek philosophy, aka the foundation of Western thought.Swiss wrote:picked it off my dads bookshelf a year ago, was falling apart so im guessing he liked the book as well. havent gotten to it yet myself though

Re: Attention Alex Kirk
Alan Watts, Manly P Hall have some good reads. Also some GREAT torrents for Joseph Campbell can be found for those interested.
I would also recommend reading Castaneda, though he has apparently been proven as a fraud. The truth of what he is explaining through his narrative is quite evident for those who have dabbled in such things.

By extension, this is my praise, since before me he was like "Yeah I heard their okay". In exchange I was given Beirut.

Did we know each other in 2004-2005...? You're thinking of someone else, or a different band.

Re: Attention Alex Kirk
I was traveling back home today after vacation and started the process of re-reading ZAMM. I'm even making notes within the pages for the heavier material. Everything about the scientific method and the fallibility of scientific "truths" is pretty interesting on a second take. The idea that truth is a function of time, for instance, or that there is an infinite number of rational hypotheses to explain a phenomenon. Which would basically state that the scientific method as a whole does the opposite of its intention by actually bringing us further from truth.
I'm at the part where he's talking about Hume's take on knowledge via sense data and imagining "substance" vs. Kant's a priori knowledge.
Read faster, Simpson.
