The only good college advice I've seen so far is emailing your professors and sucking up to them.
Not really about college, but more about the general attitude that people take towards smart vs hard working/less intelligent. Contrary to what other people may have told you, the job market is no longer about finding good, smart people and hiring them and keeping them as long as possible. People hop from job to job and companies are willing to trade up and down to fit their needs. Knowing people, having skills, and knowing how to sell your skills are your top priorities.
You are not the commodity. Companies are now hiring your skills, not your ability to learn or make good decisions down the road. It's just not a good decision to hire someone and spend time teaching them because once they get skills they'll be shopping for a job that pays more and requires the skills they just learned and practiced. The rare exception being in an industry where you are learning skills too specific to get you a better job or to hire someone who has done it before (such as product technical support).
Basically, hard work > intelligence and it's not even close.
