best/worst concerts

Post by ao_ »

I just attended the Pixies Doolittle tour in Detroit about a week ago. I thought the concert was phenomenal. At 46, Black Francis' vocals were still right on par, especially during the screaming songs like 'Tame'. Overall I thought it was one of the best concerts I have attended.

I was just curious what the best concerts everybody has been to? Also what was the worst you have attended?

worst: CSNY - stephen stills has no voice anymore and the band just played a bunch of covers of other famous bands.

Also, has anyone been to Bonnaroo? I am attending for the first time this year and am wondering how the experience is.

Worst concert I saw recently was Minus the bear. They were super boring and only played the poppiest of pop songs. BOO.

best concert: Ozzfest 04, or Portugal the Man. ;D ozzfest was crazy, slayer, sabbath, judast priest, but honestly any Portugal the Man concert is going to be over the top amazing. last time i went I ate a hash oil bar, and couldn't have been happier.

Worst: 2010/2011 Together As One. Dubstep has killed electronic music forever.

I've gone to roo a few times since I'm already in TN. It's hot as fucking shitty hell. Your beads of sweat will be sweating. Don't do too many drugs on the first day and you should be alright. Oh, and prepare for a 3-9 hour wait in the car to get in.

Best: Mars Volta, Band of Horses, Death Cab is amazing every time, Coheed and Cambria, Disco Biscuits on top of Mulberry Mountain for Wakarusa was AMAZING. There are way too many to name, and way too many for my terrible memory.

Worst: Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I was so damn excited to see them and my friend got me tickets for the fedex box at the fedex forum. They had this James Earl Jones motherfucker parts of some cheesy chrimmus story between songs. And the "orchestra" was about 6 pieces. Lots of hype, no delivery.

I'm looking forward to seeing Mumford and Sons sometime soon. Maybe Kid Cudi if I can catch a show.

Gahhh...still waiting for the Pixies to come by my neck of the woods.

I just saw Mumford & Sons like a week and they were really good. Going to see Modest Mouse in Boise later this month and I can't even remember the last time I was this excited to see a band.

worst: too many to name
best: Airborne Toxic Event (Ballroom, San Francisco) probably not the best, but the only decent one I can think of that I went to recently.

Mumford and Sons live was epic. Just fucking epic. Eric Clapton on the Scarecrow Tour in Phoenix was amazing. Youngblood Brass Band on my 20th birthday will be a top 5 show. I saw Breaking Benjamin open for Stone Sour and Rancid in Wichita when I was in high school. They did an amazing job and for a $10 ticket I can't say I was disappointed.

Worst: The Eagles in Wichita. Just felt like they were going through the motions, super bland and disinterested.

I saw Mumford & Sons play for 30 people in Chicago in 2007 before any of you knew who they were. They opened for Johnny Flynn and Laura Marling.

Best concert I went to was Wolfmother in Boston, MA. So much fun and there music was even better live.

The worst was definitely Lil' Wayne in Providence, RI... I was one of the only white people there and god damnit why does every rapper decide to get completely fucked up before a show? and why do they have 100 people on stage doing there songs?

(best conserts, not best bands)
Best:

1) Muse: They were simply amazing, the lightshow, music, stage performance, their music selections. The lightshow was more impressive than the WHO's superbowl show (which I thought was amazing.) Album quality sound, lead singer's voice is definately real.

2) Sigur Ros: saw them at the best venue in Portland, the schnitz. Album quality sound, elegant atmosphere, this band will never disappoint. Album quality sound, lead singer's voice is definately real, his voice is better live than on the album.

I'll post more later, has anyone seen Jimmy Eat World? I'm tempted but I don't know if it would be great, ya know?

I went to this super underground show at this old warehouse. This band you guys haven't even heard of just happened to be hanging out there drinking PBR with us. All the sudden they whipped their equipment out and gave like 20 of us a private concert playing ONLY their super rare B-sides.

Years ago at their height I saw Slipknot, Mudvayne, System of a Down, and Rammstein in concert. I was a huge fan of the first 3 and my buddy that I went with was a huge Rammstein fan. It takes a wierd kinda person to be a Rammstein fan to begin with, but their show was fucking awesome. It was at The Pond/Honda Center in Socal where the Ducks play, and the sold out venue of probably 30,000+ people just went nuts for the Rammstein show. They played all their big songs: Feuer Frei, Du Hast, Zwitter, Sonne, etc.. and the show was just very well executed. High energy, cool pyrotechnics, sick and twisted sado masochistic shit on stage, good interaction from their singer, it had it all.

Worst show was probably Napalm Death at the Galaxy Theater. Like someone else said, it seemed like the entire band was just going through the motions. On top of that their sound engineer sucked ass and everything sounded like shit.

other notables that I really liked are Rodrigo y Gabriella, Flight of the Concords, Flaming Lips, Vampire Weekend, Silversun Pickups!!, Young the Giant, Kaki King, John Butler Trio, Porcupine Tree, Three, Dream Theater.

Gabriella's guitar wasn't hooked up right, so Rodrigo took requests, he played Wish You Were Here and when he got to the solo he used a beer bottle has his slide. it was amazing. they play flamingo rock.

Silversun Pickups tell great jokes in between songs, oh and they are great live.

Don't listen to Flight of the Concords before you see them, it's almost all the same jokes. I got lucky because I intentionally didn't look them up before I went.

Porcupine Tree, if you love prog rock you will love their shows. Dream Theater is the same way.

I saw the Mars Volta a few years ago, soooo much sound, it was hard to even understand the music =[ I love the band so much too.

E Portland. I'm urgently trying to take as many upper division classes at PSU as I can before I go full time at UPS and what not. We used to LAN up here a bit, my brother and I, back in 2005. Neither of us play dod any more. I went through a pubbing frenzy a few months ago but realized that avalanche could only be fun for so long.

Well, since you're going to see a band perform, it would seem obvious how one would go to see the abject noise produced. I'm sorry your life is built around pedantic questions common to colloquialisms I'm using. Sorry you are desperately trying to prove you aren't a mouth-breathing nematode.

Going to see Neil Young here in about 6 hours, it is going to rock. I will throw him on the list of people I want to see before they get too old to tour. Hopefully he still has a voice.

alex and jules, all mighty originators of gifs on forums!

as far as total live experience, i was 5 feet from deftones and that was pretty incredible. cheeno puts on a great live show. stone temple pilots sounded absolutely perfect when i saw them. and to whoever said minus the bear and circa survive were horrible... thats strange because i saw them both live at the same show and thought they were really really good.
