Game Resolution
What resolution do you all use?
I have been going back and forth from using 1920x1080 widescreen and 1680x1050 widescreen.
Although I find that the 1680x1050 runs smother, the 1920x1080 looks better for me. I also play better @ 1920x1080.
I am curious what everyone else uses.

1280x1024 in window mode on a 23.6" LED Monitor.
I'd say stick with one resolution and get used to it, going back and forth seems silly.

Re: Game Resolution
I go back and forth, but the resolution I use most and I think I am best with is 800x600. In my opinion, it's the perfect combination of the smoothness/lack of recoil in 640x480 and the visibility of 1024x768.

Re: Game Resolution
1024x768 is what I've always played at.
I actually like playing at higher resolutions, but I have really sensitive eyes, so I played at 1024 so I could keep my fps up to 72.
I imagine I'll kick it up to hd with a 120Hz monitor.
For some reason, I can't stand playing with v-sync off. I really notice the tearing and it's really distracting for me.

Same. Vsync on with 90fps in DoD. You could always turn on developer 1 and have 120fps with VSync on ;DSears wrote:For some reason, I can't stand playing with v-sync off. I really notice the tearing and it's really distracting for me.

Re: Game Resolution
Yeah but there's no reason to have more than 90 fps in DoD. But yeah, this is why I would play at 1024 on my old lcd, those 15 extra fps from 60 - 75 make a big difference.k4b00m wrote:Same. Re: Game Resolution
i play at 1024x768 with the black bars cause ceebz said it would make me good. I used to play at 1280x720 in widescreen. Ceebz lied.
Re: Game Resolution
and developer 1 is illegal sirs.
Re: Game Resolution
Back in the days, it was a 20" CRT @ 1024x768
Than it was a 19" Viewsonic 2ms LCD @ 1280x1024
Now I play 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 depending on which system I play on.
I prefer 16:10 ratios myself.
I can't heavy for shit on a high resolution. In the words of squad leader "that gun goes straight up".

Re: Game Resolution
ive got a high res monitor but i still think the lower resolutions are way better for the game. i used to play ive always played at 1024 as well. one time i tried the higher hd resolutions, the gameplay is just weird and distorted to me.
id play on the lower res, since that is closer to what the game was made for originally

after tonight I'm over this high res. as soon as I start recording, even tho it says 90fps on the net graph my shit stutters to like 20-30 fps. I wonder if its because im recording at such a high reso my comp cant handle it?

It locks it at the refresh rate of the monitor.. 90 would have to be a CRT?

Re: Game Resolution
Vsync synchronizes the horizontal and vertical images before showing every frame, so it can only show images in vsync at the Hz that your monitor is currently running at. That's why on 60Hz LCD's it caps it at 60fps. On a 120Hz monitor you could go all the way up to 120fps with vsync on.Rambizzle wrote:I thought vsync locked the FPS at 60?k4b00m wrote:Same. Re: Game Resolution
I play on a laptop and hooked up an external screen (VIZIO 22" HDTV), resulting in dual monitors between my HDTV and the laptop screen.
Laptop display is 1680x1050 and HDTV, as the second display as well as the main display, is 1920x1080.

Re: Game Resolution
Khoi, that last part makes it sound like you have 3 monitors..
Here's my setup:

30" dell 2560x1600 verticlly stacked on my laptop (1080p) for a total 2560x2680.
And not pictured, I have my 50" samsung plasma (1080p) mounted to the left, which is also hooked up to my laptop.
I never run all 3 at one tho

Re: Game Resolution
are we talking about what resolution we play DoD on? How are you guys playing it on such high resolutions? I have a 23" 1920x1080 monitor, but playing the game at that resolution looks absolutely terrible -- all stretched out. I play at the largest "selectable" resolution on the game and play it widescreen/windowed. Looks a little weird, but much better than full screen.

nothing gets stretched if you have it properly setup. native aspect ratio and native reso. Sure WS looks different than regular, but its proportionate. Nothing being stretched

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Though for some reason my video card was being lame for a while with setting my monitor to something other than 1920x1080, I recently switched from HDMI to DVI so we will see if that changes anything.tenks wrote:wAsTe wrote:are we talking about what resolution we play DoD on? its not your video card, its your monitor. Check out you're scaling settings, that could be causing the issue for non-1080p/native resolutions.

I've the same monitor as k4b00m (BenQ XL2410T 23.6' @ 120hz) and God knows how long I tried to go back and forth in widescreen resolutions but in the end I simply couldn't hit shit when I was using these stretched like screen modes. Then I went back to my 800x600 that I've always used in the monitor's aspect format (something like 17') and it's even better than it was with my old 17' Samsung CRT monitor.
Btw, +rep for the vsync trick, Chris!
