Feedback: New Computer Build

Post by stile »

I need people who are educated about hardware to help me out with this build. I kind of mix and matched to the best of my ability. I didn't want to spend too much and right now all the hardware comes to about 800 dollars. I have a tower/psu I could re use that are hopefully comptabile with everything. I'd just like some feedback. My main concerns were that some of the parts I chose might not be compatible with each other. Thanks.

fuck biostar, fuck seagate.

otherwise good, except the CPU has a built in gpu. that seems sort of redundant.

only parts you really have to worry about mixing and matching are the cpu/mobo socket and mobo/case but you can get a lot better for $800 so do your research

Never heard of biostar. And make sure your old psu can run the build.

are you using old HDs too or is this gonna be the only HD in your system? if its the only one, 160gig is entirely to small.

i do like that mobo you linked second though.

i only dislike biostar from previous experience with them, and ive never had good luck with seagate HD's. i tend to buy WD or i dont buy a HD. if your gonna go solid state thats a whole other story though.

if the cpu sockel on the mainboard fits the cpu you should be good (on the web page it says the mainboard suports all ix cpus this is fales since the newer cpus which are manufactured in 30/25nm have a different one to the ones that are produced in 45nm, regularly every mainboard and cpu got in it's description which sockel they support, this mainboard 1155, but it seems that the cpu you choose is sockel 1155) the psu should have at least 600 watt probably 800 watt would be better, if the mainboard fits into your tower you should be good, btw. pretty nice setup for 800$.

regularly the build in graphics isnt used if the computer detects a dedicated graphic unit and shuts it off (nearly every mainboard/cpu at the moment got an inbuild graphic unit), for powersaveing you could probably get some sort of tool which switches inbetween them while the system is running, but this probably only has a minor affect which is interesting to notebooks.

No, you can safely run a 550 with a 450 or even 400 psu, with a 500w psu you can run a 6850 in cf.

If you have a Microcenter near you, you can get a 2500K + mobo combo dirt cheap.

Personally, if you are on a budget you should definitely go the AMD route.

http://www.microcenter.com/specials/pro ... PROMO.html

You can get the FX8120 + Asus Sabertooth 990FX for $269. You can't beat that pricing.

Get a Western Digital or Samsung F3 for your data drive.

I would get the 8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600mhz kit over the GSkill (which you only chose the 1333mhz version of).

With all that processing power, you might as well get a real graphics card as the 550Ti is a pile of crap for the 2500K or FX8120. The 560Ti 448core is quite the performer and can overclock to 1000mhz on the core easily putting it up there with the 580 in terms of performance. If you go the AMD route, get the 6950 or 6870 if you need to keep it cheap. You could always add another in the future for crossfire and have a hell of a system.

I don't see a power supply, case, heatsink/fan or any optical drives either (unless you are re-using some old stuff).

Honestly though, if you are trying to do a budget build, you could keep it under 650-700 with the right selection of parts if you aren't doing any crazy gaming like BF3 or Skyrim cranked all the way to max.

Hit me up on steam or something if you need some help.

if this build is for games like dod/cod/l4d etc.. you could actually save money on the cpu a lot.

you could go with a dual core: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115078
& with your money saved on the cpu you could upgrade to an 80gb SSD for your OS

the truth is almost every game available at the moment runs perfectly fine on a dual core.. so if you're using the build for games like cod/dod/l4d rather than using it for lets say intensive video editing programs (hard on the cpu), you'll probably enjoy an SSD a lot more than a quadcore cpu.

JUST A THOUGHT. biggie is an idiot so i suggest you do your own research stile.

I unlocked my AMD 555 to X4 and running it at 4.2ghz @ 1.45v stable with CnQ enabled. Chip is a beast and only cost me $80 with a free motherboard that I sold for $50. Not bad for a $30 cpu that can run my 560Ti without breaking a sweat.

wait 1 1/2 months. didn't read any of your story, so if you can't wait..sorry.

Ivy bridge is launching in april.

2500k will be replaced by 3000 series.

You're so close to a huge refresh it's almost a waste to buy now.

$99.99 -$5.00 Instant $94.99 I haven´t read the info about this motherboard, but buy a motherboard with support for Crossfire (AMD cards).

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded USB 3.0 Don´t pick that case!! It so loud trust me. Fractal Design Define R3 USB 3.0 is a quiet case, but it can be to warm inside. Fractal Design Arc is a cool case to pick. Corsair 650D, NZXT H2 and Switch 810. Look also at Silverstone´s cases, Raven 2/3 and Fortress(amazing case, but a bit expensive)
$105.99 -$6.00 Instant $99.99

$149.99 $149.99 Great card(got the XFX version of 6850), but look at 560ti 448core or the new 7850

OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W Modular High Performance Power Supply compatible with Intel Sandybridge Core i3 i5 i7 and AMD Phenom
$99.99 -$30.99 Instant $69.00 Works good if you are going to use 2x 6850, don´t forget sleeve! :P I only know european based companies who sell it , djungelapa.se and mdpx-x (or something), swedish and germany based company. It´s fun to sleeve :)

Western Digital Caviar Blue WD2500AAKX 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
$74.99 $74.99
Oh, no. To small HDD for your porn movies. Please buy a bigger one :P
AMD Athlon II X3 455 Rana 3.3GHz Socket AM3 95W Triple-Core Desktop Processor ADX455WFGMBOX
$79.99 $79.99
That cpu sucks :P Buy a 955 and overklock it, 960T and unlock it to a 6core or a AM3 cpu with 6cores (the FX series sucks)
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL
$41.99 $41.99
No comment, but I whould buy 16Gb with it´s so cheap and atleast 1600mhz (tho you have to overklock them to get them at 1600mhz
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
$99.99 $99.99
Buy fullversion, I think it was this version who ONLY work on 1 motherboard.
total $710. The dual core sounded good but I saw that I could spend less and unlock 4 with the AMD. I don't really expect to max out the video settings in Skyrim of BF3. Playing the game normally with no video lag would be good enough for me. If I could get a cheaper card let me know.

And yeah, I'll be re using my DVD drive.
But I recommend you to buy 2500k and a motherboard with CF from ASUS or Gigabyte instead for AMD :)

and buy a soundcard :) ASUS DX1 is a cheap card and it´s pretty good. ASUS Essence is much better but cost around $100

If you going to lan much, buy mATX motherboard and mATX case. Silverstone´s TJ-08 is a good case for mATX rigs.

ALSO don´t forget to buy a GOOD cpu cooler, the cooler that follow the cpu are so bad to use.. Loud and doesnt cool very much.
ANTEC 620 is a great pick and easy to install. It cools my 955 @ 3.6GHz very good. Idle : 29-30 C and Load : 40-45 C.
Schyte Gentle Typhoon is a great pick to use on the Antec 620

16 GB of ram is TOTALY useless unless you're going to deal with hardcore video and photo editing and so on. 4 GB is really enough for gaming, 8 GB is enough for the future.

No it´s not... The more memory, the more programs etc can you have running... And then you can make the HDD faster with RAM memory with help(or was it a other memory?) But I have read this at pcforalla , somewhere....

And I don´t know if hes going to record anything from games and with 4Gb - barely works for me. 8Gb - Works better for me (when I recording from BF3 with Dxtory/PlayClaw or FRAPS)
lolinus wrote:And his budget is 800, that's 5.6K sek.
You can buy old stuffs for very good prizes, with 2500k, motherboard and memory you can get it under 2,5K SEK , depends on how old the hardware are.
You can also find Antec 620 for 150-200SEK and gpu for a good prize. And then you buy Windows 7 and HDD from store..

again, wait 1 1/2 months. Ivy Bridge will replace the 2500k w/ i5-3570K. 22nm, draws waaaaay less power and is about 10-15% faster overall for the same price.

get 8 gigs. Ram is a commodity right now, its retardely cheap...and its about to hit a price spike a month soooo get it at these prices while you can.

I've been running 8 gigs on my laptop for a few years now. Whoever said stick with 4, is an idiot, especially with 64bit OS's and the cost of ram.

You are referring to a RAM Disk. I used to use it 10 years ago when it made a huge difference with programs that needed a low latency access to data as opposed to long read/seek times with HDDs. Now a days, the difference isn't nearly as noticeable with SSDs running in the wild, but still has its uses. I set aside 4GB of my 16GB for a RAMDisk and run a select few things in there. I doubt you would have any uses for it though.

http://www.overclock.net/t/1166759/ssd- ... t_15671533

I have barely broke 8GB of usage with a ton of shit open and running BF3. With ram is as cheap as it is, get as much as your heart desires. 8GB for ~$45 can't be beat. DDR4 mid to late 2013 as well.

I've never broke my 8GB, and then i've done some pretty heavy comipiling. 16 GB is not worth it if you're not going to work with video/photo/editing. And normal use my 4GB laptop can handle, it will die when using wireshark in switches that got loops though.

i dont know if this still is working (they could have stop giveing out test/trial accounts) but if you got a fast internet connection creat a test account on windows azure and render with the ms cloud, the hardware power you got there will always beat a desktop system, i've done that several times a year ago when i needed to render some teaching vids for work, but there i got a 10gbts uploading connection.

1.8k för en begagnad 2500k?! (kanske inte var nog tydlig med att bara skriva "old" ^^) And also you don´t need a decent motherboard except if you are going to overklock much or use CF/SLI.

EXAMPLE - though it includes a monitor, keyboard, mouse, better cooling, but a pretty old gpu now(460) 6k SEK

Why would you want to buy an used CPU? That's a last resort thing to do as if you have no money and your current is broken.
