Live Feed Suggestions

Post by toxinatoR »

First things first i thoroughly enjoy what you guys have been doing. I was eager to see what this live feed was capable of and it has been turning out really well. Some things that I would suggest are:

-more first person POV .. (I dont know how everyone else feels but I am not too fond of the aerial views.)
-less jumping from player to player.. (unless someone is being a netherhell.)
-someone willing to do play by play... (yes we know corey.)
-pre/mid/post game interviews ..(inbetween halfs/ short & sweet if possible..Q&A with chuck = entertaining.)
-possible to lose minimap/+showscores?

.. Again these are just suggestions just curious to see what everyone else thinks / has to offer...

You need more Matt Rogers talking. I haven't actually watched one of these yet...but can you go wrong with more Matt Rogers?

The only thing I disagree with is the 'mid-game' interview. Let the match play out and work with the players of the match for pre and post game.

I still think it would be awesome to see some sort of text based question to go along with the MOTW preview. I know people don't want to get too "serious" about 2012 dod - but why not just make it better than what it is? Have FUN with it, rather than it being serious. As I posted before ask a player from each team "who are you looking forward to fragging the most" type questions. Not something super serious. But something funny for the community to read and laugh at.

I had it in mind similiar to a coach or quarterback running back out onto the field. Just a few simple questions, whats the game plan for next half / who blew it for you on first half etc etc.. Mainly Humor based questions though.. But i can see what you mean..

im gonna have to disagee with ya sean. i think the midgame interview would be the best. that is when both teams are still both into it, match is still playing, rather than getting an interview from someone who has just lost with them being all mopey. what needs to be done in the 2nd half in order to secure the win, what were you guys having most difficulty with, etc. hop in a vent channel and get some team recordings!

you can still have fun with it and still be serious when it comes to the match.

Ok, I like the suggestions.

But, please don't take these things too seriously. They are entirely happening for fun and comedic value for the community.

We aren't trying to be ESEA here, or sell DoD 1.3 to the esports world. It's simply for us to enjoy. I don't want to see any [dod4cpl] mentality.

It's supposed to be a little bit ghetto and random. If it gets too serious, we lose all of the comedic irony of the fact that we are putting in time and effort into live streaming DoD 1.3 matches in 2012.

As far as adding other casters to the crew, and interviews, and all of that shit. That's totally up to Chuck and Matt. They stepped up and took the initiative, so if they want to corey to join them, great. But, in my opinion, if you've got a super nerd giving really active play-by-play of DoD 1.3 matches it just gets weird, and loses a ton of ironic and comedic value.

It would be good if they talked about day of defeat so that players who aren't from the community could tune in and get a better understanding. community and league news or information about 1911 would be good too. maybe just spend five minutes watching tasteless and artosis(from sc2) to get an idea of what professional e-sports casting looks like. to be honest, i'm not a fan of the random comedic stuff cause i just don't find it all that funny and i haven't been able to watch more than maybe 10 minutes of the casts so far. I'd rather have casting from someone who is passionate. now i don't mean to be an asshole and i don't think it should be super srs, for sure comedy is needed. i just think there needs to be a balance between commentating and jokes. just my opinion.

I dont want this like a DoD4CPL at all lol. My main focus for the interviews were to be entertaining.. like i posted a Q&A with chuck = entertainment.

And I nearly died at the super nerd comment lol.. I See what you mean.. The play by play doesn't have to be like CPL04 CS or anything like that.. I've heard corey do it before hes pretty entertaining / humorous at it.. This for an entertainment aspect.. I felt as though some parts of the feed were pretty dry thats all..

I thought the player interviews were a good idea, too, but I want everyone to seriously take a moment to think about how ridiculous it would be.

We are a small community of familiar faces playing tired ass maps in a bullfuck baloney ass shit of a game. Not much room for theorycrafting in there, and honestly DoD was never conducive to theorycrafting in the first place outside of "lol should we quickswithc or not lol?" No one is trying to play at that level anymore.

This is how every Q&A would end up:

Q: "How are you going to play the game on the map?"
A: "We have players that will be on the map in the game and they will be playing the game on the map. This should guarantee victory."

There is literally nothing left to say about how the new house on Harrington has changed gameplay, whether the sniper delay has gimped the class, or how badly we miss bandaging. The only thing that's left to talk about is how much better I am compared to all of you, and random bullshit that happens in the matches. The post-game interviews are probably alright for this reason because we can talk about things that just happened organically in the past forty minutes.

I feel the interviews could be a little bit outside of the box.. Like sears said he views this as ghetto and random.. So even if the questions were not even remotely dod related / personal / how coreys athletes foot is treating him etc.. I figured the interviews being eccentric sometimes not relating to dod would add to that ghetto randomness.. We all have been using the same dod "strats" for the last 8 years lol.. So i understand what you're saying.

My only suggestion to the broadcasters: Do whatever you want.

The fact that we have people willing to put time and effort into shoutcasting is far above any expectations I have for this game in 2012.

We've had people randomly "broadcast" throughout the years and it was never expected. Im not trying to squeeze all i can out of the broadcasters.I just feel that if there is going to be a Live Feed and it is going to be posted on 1911 it should be done pretty well otherwise not done at all.. (NOT SAYING IT HASNT BEEN DONE WELL.)

Hence the few MINOR suggestions.

Matt + motive works really well together, only thing that could put it over the top was if somehow scat came back and jumped in the mix. Just don't turn it into a "too many chiefs not enough indians" scenario.

A++ so far though. Keep it up!

Edit: One more thing, any chance of bringing back the official preds for playoffs? I don't know all the teams but I'd be willing to write some for a round or two if there were others interested.

I understand everybody saying "let's not take this too seriously because it's 2012," but people are taking their time to watch these things. It's not like you only have 5 people interested in it and you don't want Matt and motive to get too into it for nobody. If the entire community (or a big group) is giving feedback about how they think the interviews would be interesting, then would it make it "too serious" or just in-depth and interesting?

Just an opinion. I still haven't gotten a chance to watch the things yet!

I think the effort being put into the Live feed's is awesome. I'm glad people are still dedicated to this game, because this is probably one of the few games i've ever enjoyed playing. I think the interviews could be a good addition, i dont think they should be very serious, comedy would definately help peak my interest in watching it. Although i wouldnt want to see something thats trying too hard to be funny. A good mixture of comedy and serious questions would probably be appealing.

Nothing about it worked better. I must have really shitty routing to Twitch.tv because I connect to _any_ of their servers thru RTMP and the connection just drops constantly, even when not streaming. The result is the shitty segmented stream that we had last week. At least on ustream the quality is about the same and I haven't dropped connection once; the only shittier thing is that I keep forgetting to record the motherfucker.

I'm just speaking of my experience in watching the matches. Apparently ustream was better for some of you. Using ustream seemed to be choppy for me the entire time. Twitch was actually watchable.

I know hypnotik of lab has streamed his games in the past and maybe could give you a little info that could help making the stream better quality and run smoother for the viewers.

Chuck and I tested out pretty much every streaming site imaginable, and ustream was by far the best option for him.

Twitch worked ok for the first test stream we did, the problem is that he has a really hard time maintaining a connection to twitch while streaming. It got to the point where it was disconnecting him like every 30 seconds.

As far as the video quality goes, Ustream has also been the best. It's comprable to what he had on twitch, but its more stable, and the video pixelates far less often and much less when it does.

Really strange that ustream was choppy for some of you guys. Doesn't make sense at all.

It's possible that either ustream was really busy or FiOS in my area was really busy or my dad was downloading goat porn. Best explanations I can think of. FMLE auto-adjust is set up to drop frames but I think that's used for when it can't keep up with the encoding, not necessarily the uploading, and I really doubt that I lack the processing power for this.

twitch held better connection for me but at worse quality. Ustream would stream for 3 seconds then audio would cut and screen would cut black then pick up in 45 seconds with another 3 second snippet.

For both streams I joined halfway through first half so I dont know if it would have been different if I started from the beginning of the broadcast.

enjoyed the youtube versions though, great job! Would like matt to make more game references like the noting 3 downs and momentum changes that he has been, but maybe even comment more on how players are rotating or playing too slow or too fast. I think that would lead to motive criticizing more people(a good example is when you guys made fun of me whenever you were on my POV).
