Decent for the gulf! The waves in NC aren't much bigger unless theres a storm off the coast.

That is glassy perfection right there. I'm jelly. Totally reminds me of my home break with the oil drilling in the back.

Is this pretty common for a spring swell? I'm looking at buying a fellow california transplant's longboard and may just have to bring it down for a day or two of surf. But I don't want to get stuck with some ankle biters.

PS what's the water temp like? I didn't even bring boardshorts :x

I agree! This is such a strange picture for me because I have no experience with seeing any large thing in the ocean. Great shot!

it's called a beach break. The wave sucks up sand making it heavier (and hurting a bit) and making the water seem dirty. You should see Cape Hatterus in NC or Costa Rica beach breaks, water looks so shit stained but it's all sand being sucked up into the lip...

Umm, those 2 days were the best I've seen all winter.. Not normally that good, but it's decent from now until may (alotta wind swell so bring your fish and be prepared to smack the lip twice if you're lucky and fizzle into a foam ball but oh well)...

also water temp is 70 right now.. I went out like a retard a few days ago and surfed in boardies + a longsleeved rash guard.. it was kinda fuckin cold (sun was out and was ~85, but still...)

in 2 months time the water will stay between 80-90 degrees until the end of October so fuck it.

I've never even gone in the water here in NorCal without anything less than a 5mm hahaha. 70 would be balmy compared to the average mid 50s. I don't surf though, just dive.

For real, I don't think central coast summers break 70 degrees, it's still kinda unpleasant to swim around in.

PS This is what socal water looks like 85% of the time

Oh hell no, the waves are only that good when we get a storm off the coast. I was referring to the color of the water. The loverly murky brown where you cant even see your hands in the water when you're paddling.

This is what my local break looks like(Refugio). That's on a "meh" day. Summers can be completely flat. Winter swells bring in some unsurfable waves that are pure hollow death.

ill take that wave all day on my 9'6 james, haha.. I'll pull some helicopter tricks on takeoff and ride the nose down the line.. sadly tx doesn't get that clean very often :\ hurricane swell when the wind shifts offshore right before/after the storm are the best but.. ya, you gotta be able to handle a killer riptide and current that's flying... but the good swells make it worth it.. too bad i'm working 2 jobs atm :|
