What are you reading?
As nerdy as everyone is here there is a severe lack of reading going on. I know some of you read and I would love to have some book talks. So on that note lets start with what you are reading right now and/or what you just finished that was good.
If you don't read you really should pick up a book.
I'll start. Currently I'm reading book 2 of The Demon Cycle and I must say it is a lot better than I thought it would be when I randomly picked up the first book.
If you are looking for a great series that rivals Game of Thrones and is a bit more accessible to jump into then I will recommend my favorite trilogy The Night Angel Trilogy. I guarantee you halfway through the first book of it you will not put it down until the third book is done.

I've wanted to read that series for the longest time. I love Stephen King, but I just could not get into the first book. I was told the series is amazing, but the first book is kind of slow. Thoughts?defiance wrote:I will be reading http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wind_T ... he_Keyhole

I just finished reading Ender's Game (courtesy of Grant Frazer). Though I'm not sure if I'll continue with the other nine or so books in the series, that first book was amazing.
The two books I finished before that were Oxygen and The Fifth Man. The latter is the sequel. If you have any interest in space, I'd take a look at them. Some of it was a bit over-the-top (the author is a strong Christian and it is obvious at times), but it was easy to get through.
Alex Kirk controlled that one. It probably lasted ten posts before turning into a workout thread.Brasky wrote:I'm reading this other thread about what i'm reading.<3

Re: What are you reading?
I would say the first book is a little slow, but it is WELL worth it. The entire series will grab you. I started right before the last book came out. I was so engrossed in the story that i read all of them in a month, leading up to the last one.
Also, as a bonus for you, this book coming out is set somewhere in the middle of the series, so you wont be stuck trying to figure out wtf is going on, like i will, since im 3 books ahead of it.

Re: What are you reading?
Wasn't there a thread like this no more than 2 or 3 months ago?
Whatever, just finished the hunger games, and i'm moving on to catching fire whenever my aunt is finished with it.
I was reading the girl with the dragon tattoo, but lost the book when I moved.
(I know, I'm so cool, i read books once the movies come out!) trololaway.
Also I'd recommend Kinky Friedman's "You can lead a politician to water, but you can't make him think"

Shadow of the hegemon! But you have to read ender's shadow first, which is still a really good book, and will transition nicely from ender's game.stealthlol wrote:

Re: What are you reading?
lol, how are the books? It is a really good premise for a show, so I think it is a really good premise for a book as well. I want the show to deal more with those fucking elites up north. Hopefully it's not too love story-ish? Oh, and snape kills dumbledore.defiance wrote:already read all 5xpx wrote:Thinking about reading game of thrones soon because of the show, which I'm sure you'll just love defiance.

Re: What are you reading?
The books are good, but there are definitely some parts in each book that you have to kind of power through, because they can get kind of slow. Also, the books are nerve wracking because the author is insane, so you definitely get hooked on reading them. Not going any further than that, enjoy the show.

Just finished up The Strain trilogy last week by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan.
Now I'm bouncing between 3 books: And the Band Played on (About the aids epidemic in the early 80s), Rant by Chuck P., and the first volume of the walking dead (haven't seen the show yet)

Yeah, just read the books. There is a sequence of about 300 pages that is the most ridiculously intense storytelling that I've ever read. How was the last book? Don't spoil it please.
it was really good and fairly fast paced. I thought it finished off quite nicely too.

I read a whole lot of Star Wars books as well so if anyone ever wants to have an EU discussion I'm your man.
Also you can check out the Kingmaker Kingbreaker series. I'm currently on the followup series but it's so apparent the writer is a female that it has become difficult to read and I've put it on the back burner.

Re: What are you reading?
What books did you read? I remember back in grade school being totally into those books starting with the rogue squadron ones. I think I stopped reading shortly after the Thrawn trilogy, but probably read 10+ books in that universe. Can't remember much at all now, though.AlopeX wrote:I read a whole lot of Star Wars books as well so if anyone ever wants to have an EU discussion I'm your man.
e: Actually, looking back at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Star_Wars_books...
I think I stopped reading around the time the Young Jedi books started coming out. I must be totally misremembering the order because I thought that the x-wing books came out before the thrawn trilogy, but it looks like the thrawn trilogy was actually the first books. I remember also reading the han solo stories.
