TPG Steam Id Lookup Tool

This program is a hack-job legit-proof because TPG won't add a feature to do it on their website. This program scrapes TPG and stores roster information locally on your machine.

Open steamid_lookup.exe to use it.

When you open it up, it will ask you to enter a command.
b - Rebuilds Database
s - Steam ID Look Up
q - Quit

b, this will go to all team pages in the leagues listed in "links.txt" file. (check out the file to learn more)
it will then parse the HTML and insert the players/teams into a local database.

s, asks you to enter steamIDs. enter them in the format of #:######
additionally, you can enter more than 1, just separate them with commas. #:######, #:#####, #:######

Results will only be returned if the user is in the database, otherwise it'll be blank.

I lost the first steamidlookup program I made, so I remade it and put it on my dropbox. The source code is available in the zip file if you want to take a look at it. It's python. The zip SHOULD include all the necessary files to run the executable ... I hope. You may need to have C/C++ runtimes.


If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions let me know and I'll do what I can.
I might try and make a GUI for it, so it doesn't pop up in a shitty terminal, but it gets the job done right now.

Don't use the B function too often. It loads 35~125 pages depending on the links.txt file.

Perhaps quickly glancing at this hasn't given me a full understanding of what you created, but wouldn't it simply have been easier for Narc to put a SteamID search function on the TPG website?

I filed a ticket and asked Bullet to do it. If he'd let me, I could probably do it in a day or 2. But for the meantime, this is a pretty useful legit-proof alternative that creates a list of all teams/players/divisions and lets you search it for SteamIDs.

My response to Justin's support ticket:

"The TPG website DOES have a Steam ID lookup feature. It is just only available to admins. I can't expose that one, because it displays information the general public shouldn't see and also links to the edit player page, but I will add it to my to do list to make one that simply takes a steam ID and returns the information about the user that the general public can see (handle, team, name, etc...) Thanks for the idea."

I have a few more minor bugs to work out from when we switched servers and I have a few admin tools that I need to finish up for Narc first, but when those are done I will make this and put it on the site.

Awesome! I talked with others in the past about the feature, I should have just gone to you. I put this program out there to just raise awareness about it.

I didn't know there was a TPG support ticket process until I read the last news bulletin, lol.
