So all you people signed up to play in the draft knowing the match dates and still can't make it?

I signed up knowing that I couldn't make one match day (today). That's why you have 9 people on the roster and ringers.

Yet its TPG to blame. Captains cant comprehend what days matches need to be played. The bracket has been up for weeks now.

Yeah, poor attendance and scheduling are to blame for this. I was looking forward to playing some more matches, was kind of surprised we were given a double FF lol. I'm available to ring for anyone if needed!

Obviously, scheduling has been an issue for almost every captain and team; but to say that FF losses are solely the captains' fault is ridiculous. People have proposed that this draft tournament take place in 1 or 2 days to avoid scheduling problems like this and no changes have been made. It's difficult enough to get 6 to show for a match in the regular TPG season, but asking one person to herd 6 randoms into a server for a possible 8 matches in a span of 2 weeks and NOT expecting forfeits is crazy. This is not directed at anyone. I'm just merely stating that a tournament of this nature should be considered for serious revision, especially since there were FF loses by multiple teams.

Note: I realize that the dates were put up ahead of time. This means that there shouldn't be ANY scheduling prior to the match and that teams should just show up and play. Lenient scheduling is what destroyed this tournament.

Maybe we are the exception here, but I know cass has taken it upon himself to contact people and make sure that we have six people confirmed for each match and possible rescheduling times/dates should the other team not be able to make the default time/day. There is a list of ringers available as well. There's no reason to not know how many are going to be on days ahead of time unless you have players just ditch you for no apparent reason (in which case there are still ringers available to play).

Pretty sure it's Tox, Shogun and Mogers case as well (half). We all played our matches (or made our best to make them happen). People laughed at me when I picked the players I've picked but in the end these very players did their best to be participate and play once I contacted them to it because they cared in playing in the first place. I know that each person case is different but I don't think the format needs be revised at all bur rather only the number of teams. Seansk have said in the mft vs gddlam match thread that we shouldn't really care since it's a only a draft but I particularly don't agree accepting / volunteering to be a captain and simply walk away with the burden of managing the draftees to play, reschedule matches with other captains to accomodate the players as best as possible. Well, but that's me.

My attack at the "captains" was at the double FF. The romans vs where ya head go match was supposedly scheduled on tuesday.. if you look at the bracket which ill post for the 90th time .. the match was suppose to be played either Sunday or Monday.. and the winner would play Tuesday.. Yes, it may be hard to get 6 but you have 20+ players to choose from.. Albeit they may not be the best but who cares just play the match out.. This will be the last draft.. And for those who continue to say play the match in 1 or 2 days.. Where is the proof that people will still show up for those matches? We had ppl not play on a sunday which is TPG'S Default day.

That's my point. The ability to schedule matches on other days is exactly what caused these FF losses. If TPG decided that the matches were to be played on those dates with no chance of playing a different day, then maybe those matches would have been played, even with ringers.

I'm saying that if the time period that the matches could be played was significantly condensed, then it would alleviate the pressure that captains have to find six and play on match night. Signing up for a two day tournament means that you either can or cannot play, leaving no room for a team's failure to have 6 play or loose scheduling terms.

What i was saying is that they scheduled the match on a date that the next round was suppose to be on.. how is that not the captains fault?

They are partly to blame, I agree. The real problem that I'm trying to get at though is allowing teams to schedule on other days besides the default day.

Why have it be the last draft just because this draft format hasn't worked AGAIN? After the last one, a suggestion thread was created. What was the popular consensus from it? Have draft tournaments take place on a weekend, so that people will know almost for certain whether they will be available for the entirety of the tournament or not.

BUT WHY WOULD PEOPLE SHOW UP FOR 2 DAYS OF DOD WHEN WE CAN SPREAD IT ACROSS TWO WEEKS WHEN THEY DONT SHOW UP ANYWAYS?!

That's pretty much the response I got when I was trying to push for a weekend/single day draft.
Nobody wants to admit they are online all day on a weekend. The problem is, 70% of this small community is. And who the fuck cares who will and wont show up. Maybe some of the lower main/IM people would show up and then could ACTUALLY play instead of sitting there as a ringer.

Fuck all these "high level players" who think the game revolves around their participation, and if THEY can't show up on weekend then nobody else can either.

If you run a 2 day tournament it is IMPERATIVE to have admins on the spot at all times, to handle disputes and other nonsense. Other than Pat most admins do stuff on the weekends. ZiNG. Not only would you have to devote a lot of time as a player but even more so as an admin. With this draft format we have a day or two to handle disputes which makes it easier. And your "fuck these high level players" comment could be directed at your team.. Most of the ringers are NOT high level players, same could be said for some backups. But most captains will NEGLECT to get ringers or use backups because they are NOT HIGH LEVEL PLAYERS. Captains will rather try to reschedule for another date than just using what they have and finding ringers. In three drafts I have NEVER had a problem rounding up 6. Drafting active players should be something to keep in mind, it is not always the "BEST" player you should draft. Blame it on the 2 week schedule all you want.. This will be the last draft because YOU THE COMMUNITY failed to step up and DO YOUR PART. As a team captain you are allowed to make TWO other players on your roster schedulers... I wonder how many captains actually did that? You have 20+ Players to choose from. When two of the match Dates were scheduled on Sundays (TPGS DEFAULT DAY) and there are still ff's.. The community is not doing THEIR part.

Thanks for running them anyway. I thought they were fun, although I ended up mostly bailing from the first two due to being an asshole and thinking my prior commitments would go away. I don't think we ever forfeited because we always had scott smith ready to pwn.

Moving back to the match, I'm not sure if we will people tonight by 1030. If we do, we play. If not, it will have to be on thursday 9 est.

You could just implement what people here have been saying: put the match for tonight at <some time> and play with whoever shows up, pulling in ringers to fill the void.

Good idea, Kevin. I can't understand why some matches couldn't be played because 1 or 2 persons since teams have 9 people and there are plenty of options, be it the very people that were picked or ringers. I particularly don't have problem using ringers as long as we have 4 people from the roster. Otherwise there would have no need of having draft teams instead of people doing pugs by the matches time. When we asked a reschedule against moi moving it from sunday to monday we had only 3 people online due to fact it was easter and we have some west coasters. I had even suggested moving this match for tonight because I know that thursday isn't a good day for most of DoD'ers, not because my team actually can't play because actualy most of them can. Whatever, I hope we can play it tonight.
