Now I do not know you, nor am I going to pretend to. I have played this game competitively on and off for almost 12 years or so, and have seen a lot of hackers/cheaters come and go, and I still have the same question for every one of them... Why cheat at a terrible game? Also though, why cheat when it does not matter? What is the point of trying to gain an advantage in something that does not mean a damn thing? I guess I just do not get it.
While I cannot answer this question for ceebz, I can answer it from my point of view.

EVERYONE CHEATS

I have seen the most "respected" players in this community cheat their faces off since I came back to play this god awful game.

I'm not sure why, but I have a feeling it's one of two reasons.

a. Because the people they are playing against are blatantly cheating
b. Because they are fed up with these random people who pick up a 11+ year old game and are magically better than everyone else.

I've rage quit my fair share of 12 mans in the past month or two, usually because some god awful player is cheating their face off.

Yet when it comes to matches everyone I play against is friendly, and not the least bit shady.

That's pretty much the reason that every time I get a message asking me to come ring, I decline. Not because I have anything better to do, but because I don't want to get angry about some random kid (with an 8 dig starting with a 4 or 5) owning me and other legit players.

Dod is in a state where you get your fame in 12 mans and scrims, so people try their balls off, cheat blatantly, and frag with no flags. All so they can "be good"

/rant I really do give up with this game.

Keep on banning all of the best players in this game for dumb shit, see where it gets you in 2 years. We've already killed 2 or 3 invite teams this season. Why not keep at it until this game is completely dead and we all can just call it quits?

Tried to + rep but guess I cant anymore. I can honestly say ive never cheated at this game and never plan to. Its a matter of respect and reputation to me. I live my life trying to build a good reputation with work and all and I treat dod somewhat the same. Once someone is caught cheating you will almost always be thought to be cheating anytime you play well. I personally dont understand how people get satisfaction from cheating. I'd love to attend a LAN if one was semi close to me, someone set something up!

This is why you don't see me ring a bunch either. Its hard to ring when you see those people in a pub blatantly using cheats, then go in and 12 man against them. It always puts that question in the back of your mind. Then I get frustrated simply because I don't 12 man enough, and it sure as hell is a different monster than pubbing.

Most of the time I do have a good time participating in 12 mans; 85% of you guys/gals are good people. I'm sure less players cheat than people elude to, but I'm no AC and can only spot the ridiculously obvious.

I am in this mindset exactly. I personally have never cheated at this game, nor any other online competitive game in my life, and I never will. I guess that is why I find it difficult to find the point in cheating. In my opinion the whole idea of playing in a competitive game is to see how your skills, or a teams skills match up against others. Cheating not only gives one a false sense of how good they are, but also shows that you have no respect for themselves, other players in the game, or even the game itself. Which begs the question, why even play the game in the first place? Maybe it is just my naivety getting to me, but it does seem that more people are cheating now then they were years ago when it seemed to be more competitive.

Just because people are cheating though is not going to deter me from pugging, or scrimming, because unlike people who are cheating I personally don't play this game to be the best, nor do I pretend that I am an amazing player. I play for the fun and competition of it. So if I am playing in a scrim or match, and someone really finds the need to cheat in order to win or prove they are better then me, it just shows how weak of a person they really are, whether they realize it or not.

I agree with most of what james said. saying everyone cheats is a gross over statement but a lot of people sure do, and in no way am I condoning ceebz or anyone else in the world cheating but this game really doesn't have the players left to be banning in masses anymore lol

and for the record, I have cheated on 2 occasions. ONCE in a pub, which I subsequently got cal banned for in 2005, and once for about 4 days straight in 12mans 2 years ago (note that not a SINGLE person accused me of cheating in those roughly 15 12mans during that time haha I must have been good back then) so to say everyone cheats all the time is a little excessive, but it certainly has become more prevalent as the game has lost more and more life. However, killing the game off more is just going to breed more cheating.

Let's go down the checklist:

A) Lackluster debates.
B) Horrible, and I mean horrible, gif usage. You know who you are.
C) The "I've never cheated!" discussion.
D) TPG is corrupt blah blah blah.

Let me clear some things up.

1) You're all stupid. Not all, but most. There's an 87% chance that if you're reading this, you're dumb. TPG is not corrupt; they're fucking smart about this. "Oh, police, stop picking on the house that looks like a fucking meth lab." Like, that's what I'm hearing. Yes I made a comparison regarding flawless and a meth lab because A) you all look like you were born inside of a meth lab to meth parents and B) you all have the same guilty appearance to TPG-ac as a meth lab does to police. TPG is not corrupt. They are just keeping a more watchful eye on the people who they know to be doing stupid shit. Keep cheating in scrims and crashing vents/servers then act butthurt when people look at you suspiciously.

2) Who gives a fuck if someone did meaningless cheating in their past. If they cheat in a match or server with a config running, ban them, cool, those are the rules. If they cheat in a pub or a joke scrim, then it's whatever. It's an online video game. I know, it's not "honorable" or "noble." Yes I am biased as I cheated in pubs quite a few times (sup, hatemaker), and in a few scrims (coincidentally against the flawless kids, as well as cheating South Americans). I wasn't trying to hide that fact from anyone but them; I'll bet the vast majority of people who played semi-actively since last winter knew what I did. And I really couldn't care less now. It's fun to cheat against people who don't think twice about cheating against you, and/or against Paw_Paw from the GSR pub and/or against the entire BAW pub.

3) If ceebz was caught cheating in a way that was against the rules, then he deserves to be banned. If I was caught going against the rules (I wasn't, lololololol (but that's because the rules did not condemn cheating in scrims (lololoophole))), I would acknowledge I deserve to be banned. Seems like ceebz has done that. So, it's whatever. But let's be real, he cheated in matches before so this should have happened a long time ago. Real talk. Stop defending him (if anyone is?), stop saying flawless/dpk gets unfair treatment (ex-dpk member here), stop saying TPG is corrupt. See point #1.

4) Mad at essay? Ya u mad.

5) Image

not trying to start anything but that is by the far the dumbest thing anyone has said in thread so far. wow.

TPG needs to amend the cheating rules.

Clause 22.2 -
"If you are trying to help your team not get shit on by another cheater, cheating is permissible."

I mean really?

I reiterate that cheating is silly. From what I can tell, you all do it so you can do the CPL fist pump and not feel like you're wasting your life.

Most of kirk's arguments are invalid as well (who care about retired dod hipster comments?) and in the end horrible gifs are horrible because ricky schisosowosowow didn't got enough inspiration because either the discussions were too light or too dumb to get a good image usage. That's pretty much depicts the thread. Signing out.

In addition, disregard my unusual grumpiness because just got the word here back from my CFO that I got my working shift changed: from next monday onwards I will have to arrive 8 am instead 10 am (local time). I got financial benefits in this but this also mans no more going to bed by 0 am est anymore. Prolly a (compulsory) video game retirement in the way.

Btw, inb4 someone post that I'm a nerdy banana picker, let me start:

I reiterate that cheating is silly. From what I can tell, you all do it so you can do the CPL fist pump and not feel like you're wasting your life.

(You are)
Yeah, definitely started when I showed up. Not from all the "Hey guys, I never cheated!" or "TPG is corrupt and only picking on the people who are actually suspicious," etc. etc.

We'll have that "awesome at life" plaque made out for you soon.

My arguments aren't invalid. They're spot on. I'd argue they aren't even arguments, more facts. About life.

How can we complain about people getting banned _when they're cheating_. Do we really want to just allow these guys to cheat day in and day out for the sake of "keeping the game alive?" Well, unfortunately some of you do, but you're pretty dumb. If cheating kills the game, so be it. It seems that people have cheated online at this game in much bigger volume than when I played CS, and I really don't understand it. There seems to be a culture that has evolved since the best players stopped playing that just accepts people to cheat sporadically. I feel like there's a logic many of you follow that falls under "I'm playing against [insert random idiot's name here] so I'll cheat." That Dustin Young guy (I still don't know who he actually is) apparently has been banned like a million times for cheating since I've stopped playing, yet he still scrims seemingly every day. He cheats in every scrim I've played against him. AND YET YOU ALL STILL PLAY WITH HIM.

I'm glad the TPG admins have finally showed (in the past month or two that I've been playing) that they aren't entirely the biggest group of idiots on the planet and actually have banned some people for cheating. It's really pretty stupid to allow guys to cheat and stay in the league simply because you want a league. It's just helped create this culture of accepted cheating and turning dod in 6v6 wallhack fests.

Sweet, hit me up for the physical address so you can courier it to me. I was worried you might be bitter at me for sorting the lot of you out.
