They're also losing the revenue sharing of the Big10 for the seasons they're banned from bowl games... so another $13mil or so

Thanks for the news Mr. Alex Kirk. Didn't hear the penalties yet today. Easier to read a few lines rather than watch ESPiN for an hour. Would the death penalty been easier for PSU?

If anything I think the NCAA commission is a bunch of feel bads for penn state, so instead of giving the death penalty they decide 60 mil in fines is good (they can gain that back within 3-4 years easily through tuition and tax breaks and returns), and that by not allowing pro balls that it might be better for as a wake up call? NCAA commission has no logic, death penalty should of been the final result.

kirk, I was mearly pointing out that the death penalty should of been invoked instead of just the fines along with no pro balls. It seems to me like the NCAA could of, should of, but didnt instead chose a route that was more like a slap to the face to penn state istead of a gun to the face by the NCAA.

You are missing the point. The 60 million fine goes towards a trust to assist victims of child abuse. It won't hurt the program much because it will get paid for by alumni donations. The hard part is the loss of scholarships and the post season ban. Like Alex said, this is basically equivalent to or worse than the death penalty. How do you think the coaches will recruit high school players when they have NOTHING to offer? This isn't like the USC sanctions where at least the incoming classes could play for the Rose Bowl or Natty as Jr/Sr. Don't be naive.....

Wouldn't surprise me if alumni donations dropped dramatically. After all, most of the alumni who are donating are probably parents by now.

I'm sure the donations will be diminished in the coming years. ESPN reported that the 60 million couldn't come from other sport's or department budgets which is why I assumed the bulk would come from donations. I guess it could be raised via tuition increases or fees but I think that would be a PR nightmare for the university.

Edit: And PSU plans to pay it in $12 million increments over 5 years

At first I didn't think so but this is much, MUCH more worse than the death penalty.

Any current stars on the program can get up and leave. It's going to be incredibly hard for recruiters to convince kids to come play ball at Penn. St. when the current players/stars are leaving...(in addition to all the other reasons mentioned, like having 0 to offer.) Although I do think the former players and alumni got reallllly screwed with the whole vacated wins thing. A lot of collateral damage from one man's actions..Such a shame.

Lol Mare lets stay on subject, and I see as far as reputation goes the school thrives on it for there football program. Im gonna correct on the proper fucked part. They did not just get fucked over financially, but loosing there reputation along with sports team the school thrives on. I rather think that as a proper clusterfuck, not just proper fuck.
