Re: New computer build: Need advice
Case is a waste of money IMO. I would've doubled the memory, but that's just me; I run a lot of bullshit.

Lol, I just assumed PSUs were supposed to kick the bucket after a few years. Im currently running a 750W antec I think.
i prefer PSUs that dont shit out in a year or 2. right now ive got a corsair 750w(seasonic manufactures them) before that i went through 1 doa, and 1 dead within a week antecs on this system.
my last system had enermax PSU that ran continuously for over 5 years before dying. i never turn my computer off. i went through 2 more antecs in 2 years, but one of them was a refurb pos i bought on sale needing a PSU and only having 40 dollars to spend, so i dont count it.
the system before that ran a sparkle PSU for pretty much 5 years solid and with a full mobo/cpu/ram/vid swap about 2 years into its life.
you can be happy with PSUs dying, i dont have the money to replace the parts shitty PSUs take with them when they die violently. im done with antec personally.
on that note, fuck razer as well. fuck them up the collective ass.

Re: New computer build: Need advice
Here was the final combo I got from newegg. A lot of the same components that you ordered except the PSU is different and it doesn't come with a HD. Might have saved you a little money but looks like you already ordered your stuff. Hope the build works well for ya!sevEN wrote:Alright guys, here it is. the final product. thank you all for your help.

Everything looks solid. Might as well get 16gigs of ram tho. You can't get 12g if you want to run your system properly (dual channel mode)
And that toshiba hard drive blows dick. Go with Western Digital or seagate.

Re: New computer build: Need advice
Hasn't Seagate been pretty piss poor over the past years? I go with WD and Samsung now.
Re: New computer build: Need advice
they have, pretty much the only reliable HDDs out are solid state and WD.

Samsung = Seagaterehpyc wrote:Hasn't Seagate been pretty piss poor over the past years? I go with WD and Samsung now.

i just said seagate for choice. I use WD and it looks like they're one of the last good ones. And samsung = seagate like defrag said.
I only use WD blacks. I have a crucial c300 SSD for my programs/os drive and it's been rock solid for a year+. Same with my 2600k, best cpu purchase Ive ever made. Been running 24/7 @ 4.2ghz on stock cooling for almost ta year.
Looking at Joey's build made me revist hardware prices and damn SSD's have dropped so much since I bought..Goodamn
Re: New computer build: Need advice
ya its been so long since i have looked at computer parts, and i just didnt really remember brands very well. i should have known to get a WD storage HD but oh well. so stoked for this to get here next saturday.
i want to pick up a new game or 2 to play on this thing. i am already getting a free copy of borderlands2 which looks incredible. anything else look cool? any suggestions?

Just back up the important stuff that you'd hate to lose. I've had a WD go down within a couple months. Could you return it and choose a new one? Or do they rape you on restock?sevEN wrote:ya its been so long since i have looked at computer parts, and i just didnt really remember brands very well. i should have known to get a WD storage HD but oh well. so stoked for this to get here next saturday.

Re: New computer build: Need advice
oh dont go and get your panties and in a bunch.
yes, i would agree that your system is probably 10x better than your previous rig, but its my nature to point out things that i see.
it's not the end of the world having the shorter pcb (pcb is the green board your graphics card is built on) so take it with a grain of salt.
while it is not my system, i just gave you the best and honest advice from my years of experience in the field.
you dont have to please me, the only person you have to please is yourself.
keep those "mother fucker" comments to yourself.

Re: New computer build: Need advice
looks like a pretty solid first build.. and you shouldn't have overheating problems as long as you clean the dust out of your case every 3 to 6 months.. oh and keeping your case elevated also helps with air circulation and dust btw

Re: New computer build: Need advice
I just built my first computer tonight. The scariest part was pressing that bar down to lock the processor into place, I thought that I was going to break it.
