DCN 1.3 Feedback

Greetings,

I am JukEboX, Game Manager for DCN. I would first like to take a second and welcome you guys to DCN as you are the first in hopefully a long line of games to help expand DCN and grow a league based solely on community. My dream is to hopefully grow it to CAL status and bring back that kind of experience. Though I don't have all the money I do offer as much as I can because I love the game and I love networking with gamers to build a better experience.

I am looking for feedback. How is the site? Is it clean? Easy to use? User friendly? etc.

I am still working out the small kinks in some of the systems but thanks to you guys I have found most of the major ones and I am grateful for your patience.

I also invite you to check out and post on the forums. (http://www.dodscompnet.net/Forums/) I did put up our very first 1.3 video in the videos section today which is a major milestone. I encourage you to contact me if you see any problems with the site as well as ways to make things better. I am constantly working to make system's better and easier.

On another note, if teams are interested, if would like some free vent space, DCN is partnered with JBX Gaming Services to provide free Ventrilo channels as well as specialized forum access for you and your team as long as you play competitively. We offer user secure channels, your own team forum, and access to run 12 mans and pugs at your own time. And this is all in their 75 man vent based in Chicago. Really don't like the site after trying to let it grow on me...

Reasons:
-Every time I go to the site, I have to do a drag and drop just to get to 1.3, id rather click an icon than have to click a carrot then select a division then hit "go"

-I've tried countless times to get my login to be saved, but it hasn't and I have to enter it each time, and sometimes again and again depending on the page

-"latest matches" show some other game even when im in the 1.3 division homepage (I wouldn't mind this if I could differentiate between games based on some icon next to the match score)

-when I do login in I have to reselect the division page I want to go to

- I think news and movies should not just be titles on the homepage, but should have pictures with them, something more enticing.

-I have to make a dodscompnet account, and a forum account?

If you log in it will default to a selected game or to a game your joined to i.e. Login > My Profile > My Default Game.

This I am working on. I had one before but the code did not work well and caused a lot of problems especially with the new browsers. I am still working on it.

I will try and work something out but it will have to be like this for now as the sidebar will get to cluttered until I do a full overhaul.

Not quite sure what you mean about this. It should default to your game and all the divisions should show up in teams, schedules, and standings.

The current news/movies section is all html based and is only as good coded as it is built. Again work in progress but looks good I think for now.

Yes just as you did with CAL you have 2 accounts (1 for league matters/1 for forum use.

I love that you have so much ambition. To hear that your goal is to one day be on par with what CAL once was...is great to hear! But before you put too much into the DCN name...maybe you should consider a name change if your goal is to really be the next CAL. Not sure if you just plan on sticking with the DoD games but I would think long term... what if you wanted to expand into different games? You would want a more versatile name for a mix of games. Having Day of Defeat Source in the title of your league kind of limits yourself. And I guess that brings me to my biggest issue with the website.....

If someone landed on the DCN website randomly all they would see based on the front page is that it's a day of defeat source league. Great. But 1.3 is tucked away in the back of the site and if the "random user/visitor" doesn't take the time to browse the site... they will think it's a one game league. Just my two cents. Maybe a website redesign should be considered even if you wouldn't consider a different league name? You definitely should be posting the league divisions right on the front page.

Just my two cents. But thanks for putting so much work into DCN. I am sure it will be a great success. I'm excited for the season to start.

I am way ahead of you on that sir! I am already working on a rename for the site but it will take some time. ALso a new banner At this point the more 1.3 content added the more you will see it for now.

I will be doing schedules on thursday. I am giving some teams another day or so to get 6.

As for the site, I agree 100% with everything these guys said.
