I know everyone probably works 40+ hours a week and doesn't have much time anymore, but anyone play a game semi-seriously these days? I wish I had the time to play sc2 and be good at it, but I mostly just dick around with friends in hon or wow with occasional esea nerdery.

Are there any amazing games coming out soon? I'm thinking about upgrading my PC since it's getting close to 6 years old now, but I think i need to get excited about some new game before I convince myself to throw down the money.

and i was hoping brink would be decent, but it turned out to be a huge bust. been looking for a game to play "seriously" myself, cant seem to find one i like. I have been having a decent amount of fun scrimming/12 manning in source though, much to my surprise.

How? HoN actually requires ability and teamwork, LoL is fucking super easy mode with overpowered piece of shit melee carries. You can have severe autism and play LoL well.

i enjoy hon as well, i prefer LoL. If you honestly believe what you said about LoL you've either played 2 games against scrubs or your a HoN nut-hugger. both games have their strengths and weakness and both of them are fun. Sorry if my preferring one or the other makes you feel like you need to tear down the game i enjoy more.

oooo, dota 2 i might play. can't say any of the others excite me.

I played dota back in 4.2 and 6.4 and then HoN first (because it was around before LoL) and I liked it. I tried LoL the other day and I can't say I like it. The graphics are kind of shitty (sorry the anime/paperdoll shit doesn't do it for me) and I don't like that there's no creep denying and that towers crap on heroes even in the late game. Besides that, it kind of felt like the same game with 8 heroes to play and a million item names and recipes and hero spell to learn. Seems pointless to spend the time to learn to play the same game.

i tried dota a few times and never could get into it. since then i've managed to play bw/sc2 with mild success so maybe i'll have better luck with another try, but LoL/HoN are poor mans dota

yea the art style in LoL definitely isn't for everyone, the towers mauling heroes even in late game can get rather annoying. When it comes to watching some matches if im bored though i seem to enjoy watch HoN replays more, its weird.

I'm kind of on the fence about another Star Wars MMO, this one's graphics and gameplay seem REALLY outdated and lame for the technology of today. The combat looks horrible, even though its BioWare, so who knows how the content and storyline will interact with the player.

currently playing mvc3 and waiting for super street fighter 4 arcade edition dlc to drop in less than a week.

i wouldn't consider building a new pc till diablo 3 comes out unless the new battlefield turns out amazing but i'm not getting my hopes up really.

such an asian answer with me only playing fighting games these days :[

that's weird i saw the graphics and thought they looked TOO good

you don't want mass effect level of detail in an mmo. yeah it looks great in the closed beta when you and the other 10 people playing are all in separate zones but glhf when you try to enter a populated city or do some mass PvP or RvR and 20gb of textures has to all load at once. i actually wanted them to make it uglier just to curb this problem. the bottleneck for mmo's has always been disk I/O speed, not servers or even cpu processing/gpu rendering power. you gotta do something like WoW and find a graphical style that allows you to skimp on texture quality but looks good enough not to alienate your user base by making them control a bunch of blocky bullshit

i love mmos but i really dont have the patience for them like i did when i was ~15, take for instance my eve online account which i have paid for over the past 12 months and have logged in maybe 3 times. dead serious.

yeah, i wanted to be able to try out d3 since i never played d2 and all the vent nerds played it and said it was fun. i like playing sc2 so i'd like to get a new pc if only to play that. it's gonna be awhile before i can afford one (trying to pay off student loans sucks!), but i think i will eventually.

i never really liked the bf series, too many vehicles and the maps were too big when i played the first one. i liked the old cod1/2 but the new cod games just feel like cssource with helicopters. they're fun for awhile but i couldn't really get into them. part of that was the shitty fps so maybe they'd be more fun with a faster rig.

Play DoD, MvC3, and HoN mostly. I like HoN better, I never played DotA, and LoL just seems like a crappy unbalanced Flash version to me. As soon as HoN was on sale I picked it up and never loaded LoL again. To each his own though.

Pretty excited for D3, will probably pick up DotA 2 even though Valve has an awesome history of buying competitive games and making boring clurterfuck noobie-friendly sequels. Can't wait to get some sweet hats for Sand King though. Oh, and Deus Ex 3 looks amazing.

I haven't played any game seriously since dod.

I'm really enjoying playing MvC3 and SF4/SSF4 before that. I don't go to tournaments or anything but they're both very deep and really fun if you throw down some cash for a nice arcade stick.

I had always thought that fighting games weren't my thing but playing SF4 and MvC3 changed that, so I'd suggest giving either of those a try.

I just installed fallout3 after having it in the box since it came out,

and thanks to cheezby over there, i get to play l4d2 & codmw2 now, and plus its a free weekend on mw2 the multiplayer thingy. So, that should be fun.

I'm not much of a gamer even though i'm currently unemployed which is ironic i think, my computer blows, and i've always played dod with speakers. hb@x.

LoL = League of Legends

Both are DoTA derivatives.

i'm going to be attending evo too and i advise you to attend even if you're not gonna participate because that shit is going to be craaaaaazy plus its an excuse to go to vegas!

I run wolvie/viper/akuma but I most likely don't take the game as seriously as you. Probably not the best synergy ever, but it gets the job done for online. Plus I feel like having viper balances out the rather noob friendly combo of wolvie/akuma, so I'm not exactly a super scrub. I don't play locally, though, and I'm not planning on going to EVO. That'd prob be fun but no time. I like watching the evo streams, though. shit gets hype.

lol I picked up MvC3 like a week ago so I'm a super scrub. I just play with my friends, we tool around with the handicaps because they don't play video games, and with that they have a blast with the mash. But my favourite team is Chun, Doom, and Akuma, sometimes Morrigan.

Now if only Zangief was in the game so I could achieve complete air fireball lockdown.

sd is definitely the best mode.

problems with other modes:
AP - if you play seriously, it's like the same 10 heroes every time. so no one good plays. I play this mode because people suck and I like playing random heroes.
BP - too nerdy. if you have a shitty banner, you lose. banning and picking teams is hard and you end up with the same 10 heroes every time in general.
BD - same as BP except you get a slight pool randomizer so it's not always the same heroes. sometimes one team gets fucked on picks and you have a couple heroes that aren't in the top 10.

sometimes you get fucked in SD by the randomness, but the teams are usually fair and you get to play different heroes without shitting on your team.

I'm looking at gameplay videos and screenshots of Star Wars right now, I just hate the animations and combat... watching the cheesy lightsabers swing and spark things... Maybe its just the quality of the videos or size of the screenshots, but it doesn't seem to live up to the hype everyone has for it. Nothing is going to be the WoW killer besides Wow itself.

The problem with SD is, people have the option of getting a carry hero most of the time and think they are pro shit when they can't carry themselves out of their Mom's basement. I honestly play better support or mid/gankers, but I can't rely on most people to carry and that's generally how you win games. STUCK BETWEEN A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE.

Dota is dead in America, it died after EG was a superpower. Only International teams have like two or three Americans. Now Asia dominates the scene with their shitty "huddle the carry turtle strat/tri-lanes". The games last longer than 2005 when it was 6.27b. Its no longer fun.

HoN and LoL is where it's at ( In Europe/America at least).

I liked HoN when it was in the Beta phase, now everyone in the community is a douchebag calling each other bad in pubs and point fingers.

I seriously hated LoL at first, mechanics and gameplay were different. I didn't know who anyone was or what anyone did, but I got use to it. LoL isn't too bad, just have to give it time.

It's been that way since I can remember. Classic turd syndrome in any game... if you lose, it's never due to your insufficiencies as a player. It's always a teammate or a cheater or whatever. I know people that just mute and ignore everyone on both teams when they play with randoms.

DotA - Defense of the Ancients - short for DotA Allstars, a wc3 custom map, which was the best of a series of custom maps named DotA, based on sc1 UMS Aeons of Strife?
HoN - Heroes of Newerth - DotA remake on its own engine (cya later wc3 limitations) with new heroes and new features like a matchmaking ladder.
LoL - League of Legends - same deal but not the same game.
MVC3 - marvel vs capcom 3
SSFX - super street fighter?
BF - battlefield

If you know the concept behind it, it won't be hard to pick up. Just re-learn the items, heroes, and builds and you're golden, the gameplay is virtually the same in public games at least. Get a hero, play the hero as its intended, profit.

Edit: ALSOOOOOOOOOOO, I need someone decent to practice Sc2 builds against in custom games. The computer sucks and I'd like to not keep playing ladder in my division until I get better and you're more than willing to play any race, any build, and even cheese if you want.
