Re: HLTV Models
Yeah so people understand:
-if you have a HLTV model of a kar in your sprites folder it will read v_k98.mdl(or something like that).
-If you have an invisible kar in your sprites folder it will read v_k98.mdl.
MAKE SENSE?
In order to enforce default models HLTV models have to go.

Re: HLTV Models
So it just checks if you have the model in your folder instead of comparing it against the default?acetamino wrote:Yeah so people understand:

Re: HLTV Models
If I am correct, it checks for file consistency. This means if you have any custom models for guns, any custom sprites, pretty much anything that isnt default except for map models it will block them and stop you from connecting.
Re: HLTV Models
fuck I thought people were smarter than this. not an attack at you hobbler, I just didnt see all this backlash coming about HLTV models. Unfortunately HLTV models are a casualty to the war against people with illegal files. There is NO WAY around enabling HLTV models, but looking for other illegal gun models. NO way. NO WAY. NO. WAY.
I'm almost certain all default models / everything stock is stored in the day of defeat.gcf or gfc whatever.
the folders inside your day of defeat/dod are a place to add custom files that would overwrite the gfc/gcf whatever.
All files have to have the same name as the default materials so the game runs properly.
any model that is considered illegal ( ANY CUSTOM GUN MODEL - there is no way to tell the difference by just reading the sprite name. again refer to my example; v_k98.mdl can be an hltv model or a translucent model) will be detected because it is in your dod folder where you add your customizations that overwrite the gfc/gcf thing.

Re: HLTV Models
Ya that explains it, thanks. I was under the impression that they were using a more advanced method for determining which models were being used (actually comparing the files to the original, which I have no idea if it's possible within the constraints of hl1 addons).acetamino wrote:fuck I thought people were smarter than this. not an attack at you hobbler, but just a community that has been playing this long has to know some stuff.

As a person who has never used these HLTV models, please explain what they do to you?
Re: HLTV Models
it basically eliminates the animation when switching between your primary weapon and secondary weapon. There is still a delay to shoot though.hildebrand wrote:As a person who has never used these HLTV models, please explain what they do to you?

Re: HLTV Models
so what's the problem? it's pretty much the same as changing your crosshair no?
Re: HLTV Models
So delete the default model and rename the hltv model to default model's name?

Re: HLTV Models
I completely understand why HLTV models are going away. However, wouldn't a translucent weapon model show up in screenshots..? Or can you toggle weapon models in game?

Re: HLTV Models
Haha! Hope you're not being srs because the checker analyze the consistency of the .mdl file as well (aka size / if it's the default .mdl of the .gcf steam folder).Miller` wrote:So delete the default model and rename the hltv model to default model's name?
Do we dispute everyone these days? No. We assume we're all legit peers and don't dispute unless we are talking about ex-cheaters (as if they stopped cheating...). Like I've said before, these HLTV models are low potential infractions. But infractions nonetheless as they're custom game files are forbidden to use. While HLTV models can be taken as something that makes you screen smoother, there are others who clearly brings up advantage to it's users. And you can't switch up models, textures or sprites while the game is open - it crashes the hl.exe.mogers wrote:I completely understand why HLTV models are going away. Re: HLTV Models
This is how custom files work with steam hl1 games. All of the default files are stored in the .gcf, which is automatically checked for consistency when you start the game. Any changes to your .gcf cause steam to repair the file, so you don't have to worry about what's inside of the .gcf, only the files in the folders that DoD/HL uses to customize your mod. If there was a standardized set of HLTV models, you COULD allow those if you wanted to by creating md5 hashes of the files and checking the hashes of the files on each user's computer, but that could cause a significant performance hit on older systems as generating hashes can take a lot of cpu cycles.acetamino wrote:all default models / everything stock is stored in the day of defeat.gcf or gfc whatever.

Re: HLTV Models
On a somewhat related note did anybody ever find the fabled HLTV model pack with all the weapons included? Like ones the stoss and mp40 on it? I don't really ever use HLTV models because I feel I play better without them but they are fun to use in pubs to change it up every now and then.

Re: HLTV Models
You're a jerk I hate you. jk<3u. Also, doesn't that mean we have three cheaters? A filthy rating bastard, and Matt and I have both admitted to using hltv models. On a more serious matter, you being less distracted by them is a personal opinion. I don't notice weapon changes at all - but that's just me. Just for you, Andrew, I'll remove them for this next match.ao_ wrote:Kevin even though we have been best friends for the last month and a half or so, I would say I have to disagree. I actually find the hltv models less distracting than the normal animation, especially when sniping. That being said, I am a little perturbed to find out our team is now harboring two cheaters. One, a highly illegal rater and now someone using weapon models to give himself the competitive advantage in main...
