Demo Recording
I have this issue where every time I try to record a demo in game, I lag. I don't know how to describe it in more detail, and when other people watch my demo it looks normal for them. It starts as soon as I start to record. Every time I move, or shoot, the game skips. It doesn't happen if I stand still, but as soon as I walk a few steps, the game skips. I don't have this problem when I am not recording a demo, and I've been having this problem ever since I got this computer, which was almost 4 years ago. It's not that big of deal, I'm bad either way. It just gets extremely aggravating when I can't shoot the garand, the pistol, or any other automatic weapon quickly, and can't strafe from side to side.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Demo Recording
It means you have too much shit in your dod folder. Too many screenshots demos maps models etc. Take all your old demos and screenshots, move them to a backup folder on your desktop. Profit.
Re: Demo Recording
do you have a seagate hard drive?

Re: Demo Recording
I'll definitely give all of those things a try as soon as I get home today.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Demo Recording
I completely cleared my dod folder, and left only the important files. I also installed and ran the quiethdd, and changed the settings to what they were suggested to be.
After all that, the game still skips. I think the time between the skipping is more, so I am lagging less.
I would love to get this fixed. Thanks in advance.

Re: Demo Recording
Watch your disk. If disk almost full, can be that.
Then try Defrag Cache Files.
Library > Day of Defeat Properties > Local Files > Defragment Cache Files.
Do the same in your Disk.

Re: Demo Recording
My disk is a little less than half full.
And I ran the Defragmentation program for the entire computer through Ccleaner, and I did the same for Day of Defeat.
Still no luck, thanks for the reply.

Re: Demo Recording
I think krud had the same problem.
He had an old ancient HD and it lagged him when he recorded as well. Eventually it started lagging him without recording so he got a new HD...double check with him tho.
JW, what are your pc specs?
RAM?
OS?
Gphx?

Re: Demo Recording
Well, I got a new hard drive, a Western Digital WD1002FAEX SATA GB/S 1TB. I will install it most likely this weekend.
I have an Asus P6T motherboard, 12GB of RAM, Windows 7 64bit, Geforce GTX 550 Ti, and Intel i7 CPU.

Re: Demo Recording
The new hard drive seems to be working great. I uninstalled Steam from the primary one, and installed everything onto the new one and so far there is no lag or anything.
However, now my problem is high ping. I don't know what's wrong, I scanned my computer first with ESET Nod 32, found no threats. I then uninstalled that, and installed a full version of AVG 2013, afterwards, I ran a full scan which also found nothing. My internet speed as of now is 43 down, and 34 up. It is usually within the 40's for download, and 30's for upload. Which is why I don't think its my internet connection.
My ISP is Verizon FIOS, they have a router that is also a modem, and my computer is plugged into that.
I ran Ccleaner, then the defraggler, still no luck. I ran the Windows Disk clean up, and then the Windows defrag program, that didn't work either.
I'm not sure what else to do, my ping is 120+ on servers where it usually was 10 to 30.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Demo Recording

Re: Demo Recording
I have the same issue. When I upgraded to Fios Quantum, I started to experience high ping nightly in chicago/texas servers with slightly higher NY server ping as well. I called Verizon and basically said it was their fault until they finally told me they released a buggy version of Quantum which is causing the issue. They told me it will be fixed in January when they perform maintence and upgrade their existing lines.Mino wrote:The new hard drive seems to be working great. Re: Demo Recording
Because it has to write to disk. Disk I/O is one of the slowest operations your computer can do.paintball_ wrote:I lag when i record too, not ping wise. The game's just alot choppier, no idea why
Re: Demo Recording
Get a new hard drive, worked for me. I don't think you need the most expensive or the one with the most room, I made a huge mistake buying a one terabyte hard drive for 300 dollars so I don't lag for 40 minutes once a week.paintball_ wrote:I lag when i record too, not ping wise. If that's the case, that really sucks. What assholes, that actually got me thinking. A while back, I called them and told them their router/modem blows (I forgot the reason) and they sent me a new one. That was a little less than a month ago, when I first began experiencing the issue. I guess I'll just call them after the storm and everything settles down.mike wrote:

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Re: Demo Recording
HD are really over priced and will be for atleast another year. After that flood in Thailand that basically eliminated the stock of HD around the world they have gone almost double in price.

Re: Demo Recording
May sound stupid, but have you tried reinstalling Steam onto your older hard drive, the one that is still connected.
If you did, I can't suggest anything else except get a new inexpensive hard drive, a small one perhaps, where you can just keep your Steam stuff.
I tried a huge number of things to fix that skipping/lag, but nothing worked. The new hard drive did the trick, though.
Hope you fix it soon, good luck.

Re: Demo Recording
Try setting the priority to realtime for hl.exe in task manager, and/or make sure the processor affinity is set to all cores. DoD will randomly skip and jitter for me 9/10 times if I don't do this.
