I prefer you do NOT vote. Makes my vote more meaningful. And you always have the right to complain whether you vote or not.

haha thats all ive been thinking about with all this election shit.

Secondly, I believe if you vote, you have no right to complain. People like to twist that around – they say, 'If you don't vote, you have no right to complain', but where's the logic in that? I think everyone that uses these forums is part of the 47% of America that can't be helped. No one can force us to care about our lives or take responsibility for our futures.

I wonder how many million man-hours were wasted attempting to vote this weekend in Florida.

I wonder why people bother voting for the president when the outcome in their state is already decided by the masses with no clue what is going on.

I wonder about a lot of things, but never why someone chooses to not vote.

Accept that you are unable to effect political change in this country and stop wasting time and energy on the idea.

I understand that, with the electoral college system, it's plenty logical/rational to decide that voting can't effect political change unless you're in a swing state--for all intents and purposes, a Republican vote probably doesn't matter in California. There are more things on the ballot than just the presidential election, things that affect local communities, in which your vote does matter.

For people that don't think a vote really matters (and I'm quoting you just to use your Republican vote in California example), if you don't vote based on that logic, then how will you ever even things up between Republicans and Democrats in that state? How will you ever know if you're getting closer to evening things up and becoming a "Swing State"? I know California is a loooong way from that, but just using it because it was mentioned before.

If you feel your vote really doesn't mean anything, that's fine. But I still don't understand why you wouldn't want to at least throw it out there on the 1/100000000000 chance that it does? I don't know if you own a home Scorch-, but if a new levy comes down that would raise property taxes, when it's for a cause or program you don't agree with, wouldn't you want to do what you could to stop from having your taxes raised?

See the problem is that the effect of your vote is non-zero, but insignificant. How do you effect change in a political system? You persuade other people to vote one way or the other. How do you do that? Media coverage, advertisements, in some local issues with good old fashioned door-to-door campaigning, but in the end it all comes down to time and money. If you want to effect change, you need to gather huge groups of people to vote the way you want them to vote and in order to do that you need to become the problem. You need to become the super PACs and lobbying groups that are able to spend billions of dollars on getting your message to the people who are too busy / ignorant to find the information unless it's forced in front of their eyes and yet still vote.

The number of politically apathetic people who vote in America will always be greater than any other plurality in a popular vote.

edit: I'm not saying you shouldn't vote, just that I 100% understand why people choose not to vote.

For me the worst part about the election was seeing the amount of "fucking copenhagen bombs" all over my Facebook feed. Granted this is northern WI, where most kids think they're from Alabama or Mississippi, but still, really made me sad seeing that.

It scares me how disconnected those people are from the way the WORLD is evolving. If Romney won i'd be disheartened that a cultist is now President, but i wouldn't spout retarded mccarthy era propaganda.

And all this Hitler shit makes me laugh just because of their idiocy on right/left. Stalin, maybe. Hitler, lol.
