scorch LOL
a few months ago when tenksticles came up with the idea of making a movie contest i started messing around with some the old favorite danschey clips from gotfrag. since the clips got deleted (not like i was going to finish the movie anyway) i decided to share with you what i came up with. it would have been nice to put some finishing touches on this and add some text and such (especially during the initial 9 kill streak on harrington vs pandemic), but anyway...behold...the digitally remastered "el scorcho"

tenksticles? never heard that one before
soso edit. seemed really random, but i generally dont like watching dod movies. not a fan of the trance music from 2001..really high bpm music with slow motion action didn't really leave many opportunities for sync....good frags tho

Well, I was cocky back then... after playing with the people who play now, I realized I'm not at all good compared to them.Las1K64` wrote:So modest!

Re: scorch LOL
hated the song choice but dan's clips really worth watching the movie muted over and over again!
Re: scorch LOL
Not sure if you were being sarcastic, or just modest but you were definitely a good if not great player dan. I dont think the "best" players now really hold a candle to the ones who used to play. I was a decent player(if we'll even go that far) but im god awful now because i pick up the game once a week for a match. Im willing to bet you spend or spent when you were still playing in tpg 1/20th of not less of the time you used to spend playing. The "good" people now still play a whole hell of alot.

Re: scorch LOL
I wish, I actually spent way too much time playing with profiction/ko when we played a couple seasons back, but only really could get to a "good" tpg-invite level and felt a tier or two below the people who could carry their teams. I didn't feel that way back in the day, but it seems like everyone today that plays above tpg-main has mastered strafing and has ridiculously good aim, whereas back in the day it felt like only 5-10 players were at that level.akiro wrote:Im willing to bet you spend or spent when you were still playing in tpg 1/20th of not less of the time you used to spend playing. I don't know, I have/had a pretty boring playstyle by movie standards and steve makes me seem like an exciting player to watch. I guess that's what I meant haha
Re: scorch LOL
Looks awesome. Shame it will never be completed.
Re: scorch LOL
I always wonder to myself how much scripting still goes on, i feel that was a tad less prevelant back then, except maybe for the m_pitch and yaw shit

Re: scorch LOL
well, now that you put me in the mix, i have to give my 2 cents: these guys have had six years on me; 7 on you. I would hope that they would get really good. That said, I'm still uncertain that the best players now would beat x6 or col, or even the next best teams at the time. They are really good at aiming now, but our harrington strat still beat the best guys now. Now, I know the copout would be "loL dORiTo pwNeD dOoDz in MiD on IniTiaLz," but didn't he always do that? And did jeffbeat and scottyb not do the same? I don't like to bring up the now vs. then argument, because the answer is simple- the guys now would rape us then on any aim map. But they've also had six years head start. six years before cpl 2005 was 1999. dod wasn't even a game then. so props to these guys now- they're really good. but that said, our six+ year old understanding of the game still beat some really great players in the present game.scorch- wrote:I wish, I actually spent way too much time playing with profiction/ko when we played a couple seasons back, but only really could get to a "good" tpg-invite level and felt a tier or two below the people who could carry their teams. tl;dr- (y)our understanding of the game is what made you(us) great. the aim was better than everyone at the time, but that doesn't explain major wins. now, it's just repetition- i haven't seen any new strats since my six years away from dod. also, some of these guys are not afraid to just hack for a few minutes. that helps.

Re: scorch LOL
and, also, about your "boring" playstyle. maybe old age has got to you, but i remember playing against you when you were at your best (ROFL you were always bad), but you were not the sit back sniper you apparently think you were. i remember playing you on lan ~6 months after you had stopped playing and i farted on your dinner and we had a discussion about it. it was because you were playing the way you _used_ to play, and i would sit back and shoot you when i saw your paladin hair swaying in the wind. and that's what I did with a six month head start. also, we were sniping on rr1

Re: scorch LOL
Ko has a huge point, i played dod from its birth till i quit efore joining the army, and even that was 4 MAYBE 5 years and i came back 6-7 years later. So even just comparing time played, alot of people here have me beat by far, so it's not surprising that i suck now compared to the "good" people. 6 years of rust coupled with less time playing doesnt bode well for me. You guys could overcome it for the most part cause you were a) better and b) even at my most active i was always playing ten other games and never put the time in to get better after 1.3b( and i mean the real 1.3b with snowtown and jump prone shooting). I usually just recruited better players and made them start haha, its what im doing now too lol!

Great transitions and new effects, Steve, but some clips were maybe edited a little too much through the duration of the clip. Kills the flow a little imo.
