Pre-Season week 2 change; READ

Post by defiance »

Attention all teams:

The map for Pre-Season week 2 will now be dod_chemille. dod_villa_b2 is causing problems for players/servers because it is the same map name as a previous map. As a result, I have decided to just take it out of the rotation. Please play dod_chemille instead. I have adjusted the TPG website accordingly.

Thanks.

looks gay. Anyone with the 4 year old version should just delete that crap from their server and upload the new tpg map. Problem solved. Would you look at that...

Why can't they just remove the files? It's not that hard.

This week I will maybe bench, now when it's chemille :|

I dont get this decision. How hard is it for people to remove a map?

Was looking foward for this week. Finally a new interresting/good custom map. But no. :(

I hope you put it back in rotation in future.

Whats not to get? People are having problems. I would actually point to the map makers as they release to many different versions of their map especially when they don't change the name with the new version. You don't need have 8 versions of the same map with the same name. Probably the reason railroad2 is 2_b2. Their is also 2 versions of harrington out there and have seen that issue with some pubs in the past. Solve the problem so it doesn't happen again in the future. (I know installing a map and deleting a map and its files is not very difficult but some people just can't get it done properly.)

Ace actually had done that. He did dod_villa_b1a all the way through b1f. I'd emplored him to release b1g with a huge dildo statue, but that did not happen. Instead he was fairly content and changed it to dod_villa_b2.

I i may have witnessed around 5 different named villas in my map folder. Ace did his best to keep them all separate.

And people are incompetent in understanding how to download a new map and install it properly.

Just say "playing Villa_b2" download the map here to make sure you have the right map, models, and config.

Hmm, I wish I was informed (or online) for this decision to change the map because of a naming compatibility problem. It would have taken 5 minutes to compile the map again under a new name - probably the same amount of time it took to write defiance's post and put it up on both tpg and 1911 as well as change the rotation.

The only servers that should have this problem are servers that have the old villa b2 on it, and seeing as most of the teams dont put custom maps on their private server that are not in league play I am baffled by this decision to change the map. From my point above, and others it seems there could have been other ways. I guess, im ticked that we are catering to the open level teams who are playing more for fun than the players I want to play the map and hear their suggestions/ critiques (and im assuming only open level teams would have their matches on their pub server where they would not want to delete their villa_b2.bsp in their server ftp, but alas I dont know the whole story).

Now, I'm left wondering when a league wide test of the map will occur( as it would generate more scrimming and more input for me to work with). Some will probably answer never with a funny gif. yippiee.

Some members of the community have noted their distaste for the b2 version and I understand that, but remember this wont be a final version and its not like I can't go back to previous ideas (I have all the versions saved...). Along with this, some members of the community have made public their distaste for the map as a whole no matter the version, but have never played it nor have the .wad file so Im curious as to how you can have an opinion.

thanks for the support and for the criticism everyone

Thank you for making the map. It is amazing we still have someone willing to make us a new map for a game that is over 10 years old. I think everyone whether they are huge fan of the map or not owes you a debt of gratitude for the effort you have put into making a map for us.

LOL! BTW Ace you've done a great job with villa. If we weren't playing KS this week I would have asked the team to still play villa.

I understand why TPG did what they did. Im not upset about it, was just looking forward to get a good solid play test from people who didn't think they were above "NEW" stuff in dod.

that being said there is an opportunity to see villa and not let it fade away. If some serious nerds show interest in tweaking it to the best of our combined ability please PM me and I will carve you some credits into a wall just like rr2.

I think very few actually know the amount of time a map takes until they open up hammer and go
I think very few actually know the amount of time a movie takes to make until they try to do one themselves.
I think very few actually know the amount of effort it takes to run a Gaming league until they actually try

I don't really understand this. I remember also having problems in the past with several versions of dod harrington. But never did any map get changed. Especially when tpg is running/hosting the correct version on their website.

I like chemille, still think it's one of the mostunderated maps. But after playing villa just once. It didn't seem all that bad. Seemed better than dod_sturm.
