Win 7 mouse polling rate

My Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 can handle 500-1000hertz in Win XP but on my new computer with Win 7 I just cant get it to work. I've followed the guides there are out there. But my mouse just dies after reboot as if it cant handle 500hz.. Which it can on my old Win XP computer..

Anyone?

It has to do with forcing windows to install an unsigned driver, which I just tried to do according to those guides as well and it was making my keyboard do crazy things so I had to uninstall it. Maybe someone else will have a better idea (I have the same mouse btw)

Ward is correct about forcing Windows to install an unsigned driver. I've changed the polling rate of my Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 on Windows 7 before, however, it was a long time ago and I forgot how I did it. Sorry.

Guys, it's not that I need someone to tell me how to force windows to install an unsigned driver. Apparantly I'm doing it "right" since my other mouse from Steelseries can run in one of those ports with 500hz set on it.

My question is why doesnt my Explorer 3.0 work with 500hz in Win 7 when it does just that in Win XP...

Could it matter that I'm on a Mac Mini and in Windows through Bootcamp?

With an IEM 3.0 and Win 7 x64 myself i was about to post the same trick from the link, but with 2 additional steps. On "check the Filter on Device box and select your desired sample rate" you should press install service after, and if you are also on x64 bit windows, then you should repeat "choose Sign a System file and insert full path to the installed HIDUSBF.sys file (For example: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\HIDUSBF.sys)" on C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Drivers\HIDUSBF.sys also. Hope it helps, it works flawlessly for me since Windows 7 release.

Did what you said since I had forgotten to Sign a system file to the 64 system files. And also I didnt push Install Service.
But it doesnt work, my 3.0 is dead. But when I connect my steelseries in that port it works, with a rate of 500.....

Well, you can try without pressing "install service" then (this doesn't change anything for me after, for example) or simply try again.
And to revive your IEM, repeat the steps, but choose for selected rate "Default" (u'll have to navigate with the keyboard though).

you are talking about two different drivers here i assume, the ports got nothing to do with how the systems behind work, it's all driver based. If the Intelli driver isn't the same as the steelseries driver which i doubt (but cant confirm due to the fact i never used any of those mice), the comparison of these 2 mice doesn't tell us anything.

one thing that maybe works is using compatibility mod and set it to windows XP SP3 if it's and *.exe or *.msi file for install progress if you just got *.sys or *.dll files i dont now if it works and before every new install attempt you better get rid of all old driver files (files and data). You may should check if you in general installed drivers from the manufacturer (chipset, Audio, etc.) and not the partially generic driver shit windows update is installing.

the other thing i would try to check, even though it probably is hard, since these work around seems to work on other windows 7 systems but yours. Set up a virtual machine and test it with an empty system if it works there then another driver or program is coursing the problems you are currently experiencing.

hopefully this helps at least a little bit, like i said before never used that mice so all above isn't from something i ever tried out practically, just a hunch due to experience with driver problems

You can try downloading the new hidufusb file for windows 7.. You might of been using the old one which supposedly only works on windows xp/vista.

Skinnto, this Mac Mini can only run 64 system so XP is unfortunate not an option.

I tried something different today. I tried changing the hertz on my steelseries mice. From the standard 500 to 1000. Which both the Explorer and Steelseries should handle. But the steelseries one couldnt run on 1000hz. Which proves that changing the hertz doesnt work for me. There's something Im doing wrong or if the drivers that Bootcamp delivers for Windows cant handle me changing it. Anywhow, I'm clueless and only a semi-nerd who are stuck.

Guess what I have to do is try to uninstall everything I've done so far and redo it with those new drivers that mike posted.
