Your biggest DOD influences

Hannibal, movies introduced me to dod so hes #1, then I'd say scrimmaging against fr0stbyte would be my second biggest influence. Playing against him really opened up my eyes, and showed me how to play the run and gun style.

I remember downloading a demo back when I was just a pubber of some match where bewton and ackpth played against eachother... I was in awe of both of them. I guess they kind of pushed me to get in to the competitive play. Then I watched a demo of scorch and lost all hope for the game.

Also, the ]mTs[ guys were some of the nicest people I played DoD with. Ghostrider was a fantastic player and he took me under his wing while we were at Fragmart. I've always appreciated him for that.

I remember these 3 in particular when I first started playing DoD and I was in awe of what they were able to do and of the frag vids they made. To me, these 3 players were on a completely different level of play than everyone else at the time. I remember watching is movies over and over again, studying his play. I tried to model my sniper play off of him, playing very aggressively and often less like a sniper and more like a Rifleman... which didn't always work out in my favor. Strifetoe was the equivalent of Hn in the NA scene. He had some beautiful streaks and had a kar style like no one else at the time. As for Regis, well I remember watching Moblitque countless times. It was through him that I began to look at the environment of dod maps and how to use them to my advantage.

I never really watched demos or movies of other players. As far as I can remember, I was always involved with small groups of teams who just scrimmed a lot and were ALWAYS online, so I had no need to socialize/pug. As a result, it was always more about teamwork from playing together so much.

First run at dod:
Kungset and Jerkstore - random pubbers from {D.D} that none of you know. They are the ones who got me to play dod, and gave me the config that i still use today. i.e right click crouch, jump with E, spacebar secondary, etc. Don't know how to play any other way.

Art3x - Besides the fact that he was a very good player, more importantly, he is a good dude. Even though he was playing against some of the best, he found the time to hang out in our pub clan's server and vent. I am pretty sure i remember him helping out our leaders with strats and shit even though we were just an open team. You're never too good to help others out.

mexicant and habib - These guys played STA with us around 2005. One or the other would usually fill in a spot and just playing with them definitely helped my team learn a lot of the tricks that we didn't really know as an IM/M team. We improved as a team a lot because of it. Made it to the gold finals, only to lose to those dreaded STR guys. From this I took the lesson that dominate teamwork can be vastly more important than a bunch of fraggers and when I lead a team to this day, I try to make teams with really good teamwork.

Ceebz - Mainly for the settings of my game that I use, specifically the black bars.

johndkc - When i first came back after hiding out in the pub servers, me, heineken, 1080p etc, were just proning everywhere like idiots. I think it was John who got it through my head to stop doing it. It definitely has made me a lot better.

seveN- smart player with some sick no recoil

Bewton- just as you think THUNDER will win it all, BOOM comes Bewton and friends to send them packing.
Amazing rifle and chill a hell

Hiphopopotumas- made on of my first 12 man experiences on a real gaming computer funny as hell.
And he could play pretty damn well too.

Nomis- simply Keller.

hXc- it's Taylor. He's pretty fucking good. He's also chill as easy to heavy with

Netherhell- taught me how to snipe and just sit in one spot

Blech!- watched demos of him and eventually got the chance to have him play for me. Great guy an easy going and can damn well ace a team

Jackson and Leroy- they pretty much have to go together. I remember being 10 and watching my big brothers team "soul!" play. These two could damn well play 2v6 and still beat the shit out of some people

Last but not least, Dorito- First starting this game I was told to go watch demos and I'd always reply, of who. I constantly watched Dorito. Not focusing on his rifle skills jut how he plays and use that along with hxc/seveN to become the subpar random frag player I am.

Decided to randomly contribute although I haven't touched this game in years. It's sad that I still see some people in this community are still bitter individuals with large egos..

Mainly the euro's - Blythe, Animal, Zoanth, etc. In my learning era, euro's had a much faster play style which, I guess, can be aptly described as run and gun. I enjoyed watching their movies for the sake of entertainment and as a result learned from their tendencies. The Body & Slip movie was also one that I quite enjoyed and taught me rifle fragging.

Doesn't mean that other players didn't influence me. But as a pubber, I didn't really care for anything but cool movies and dominating the 'clan tagged' players who came in my regular servers. I think a person I frequently liked playing against who pubbed late at night was dyelife.

Once I got into the CAL scene, a few players I liked watching were Bleargh, ackpth-, Bewton (sad we didn't get to play on a team in my dod tenure), tox, and Damon. Heavies I liked watching were ProFiction, Alex Rubel, Ron Li, oPlaid and Beas (still remember the cal-i Harrington semi-final where oPlaid dropped bombs on allies).

Good ole Jarret Haynes aka Cyan. He was leaps and bounds ahead of everyone back in the day when it came to movie making. He made highball finals from our anzio match with x6 and that was back in04, still to this day one of the best movies out. Short sweet and simple. You know alot of people hated on Cyan back in the day, they call him Cryan 24/7 bc he always whined in vent but he was a damn clutch player, probably one of the most underated players of all time.

basically i learned a lot very quickly from the rvc guys and dice guys when i first started. we knew a lot of them through cs and it allowed me to play with some really good players very early.

but the 2 most influential are DR and MaX.

i remember the first week gomi came to dod from CS (me, sonik, ko, luk), we were able to frag pretty hard from the first day. we got accused of cheating in scrims we were losing by 500. we didnt know how to play dod yet. we learned it pretty quickly and had a good first season (only lost 1 game in reg season and went to semi finals), but once we got DR on the team for our second season, we took a huge jump with how to really play dod like a really good team. also played a billion 12mans with him and was always drawn to specing him whenever i could. played with him at Socal 4, and Socal 5. very exciting player but very smart.

then, around summer 2005, or maybe fall, max asked me to heavy with him at socal 4. we had a team of max seven DR tofuman miller and x$m that lost in the finals to LLL8. we also played on a team together under the x6 "sponsor" and again together right after wsvg 2006 with spf3000. so i learned a LOT from him on how to play the heavy position while heavying with him on all different teams, especially during the time of socal4 and all throughout the tourny. mainly because i was still only playing less than a year at this point so i was like a sponge at the time and still getting better.

those 2 were 2 of the smartest and best players ive ever played with. i learned a lot about how to lead in game from them, and how it is to play with 6 guys as a team and show us what/how a real invite team is. also, being able to see their thought process as you play multiple cal matches, lan matches and team scrims with them over time. that was probably the most influential thing really because it shapes the kind of player become,it determines the type of in game decisions you make, and it shapes how you think about the game in-game philosophies. and they were the first real elite and experienced players i got to play extended time with in the first year of playing dod. so by my definition of "influential" those 2 were the 2 that influenced me most as a player.

oh and also sonik. we both heavied together for a LOT of matches and a LOT of scrims for a long time. also talked dod quite a bit and watched tons of hltv demos together early on. really great heavy partner and a guy who knew how to play the heavy position.

some other honorable mentions that still influenced me quite a bit are:

in more recent years, since ive played so long, i've been pretty set in my ways as a player. plus, at this stage in the game, why try so hard? but i have been influenced in a different kind of way. it is almost the opposite as before and it is more skill based. some of you these days are just nuts. a few off the top of my head are ryanemo, taylor, cableguy, tox, bryan, jules, these are all guys that influence me in a more skillbased kind of way by just getting to see the shit they pull off. i guess its influential because those are guys that can be so nuts at times that it influences the way i have to play against them.

awe thanks defiance lol. and um nugz pretty much got me into playing this shitty ass game back in like 06 and ive been stuck playing with his gay ass since. if it wasnt for nugz i wouldnt be where i am today and hes helped me out a bunch and i pretty muched used to download bunch of demos and sit there for hours every night and watch them and learn what they did and why and figure out all the secrets. learned a lot of my stuff from watching ninjuh and habib, 2 of the smartest people i knew. oh and it was always a blast watching shiftypowers run around and frag too. and for some reason i used to always watch a bunch of demos of joey "seven" harter learned bunch of stuff from his demos too and always looked up to him for some reason but now hes a total douche to me lol but then again so is half the community for no reason

your point exactly? yeah i did cheat and i did it blatantly not trying to hide that fact at all they were all a douche way before that cause they were getting shit on by me and couldnt accept the fact that i was better then them. never once did i cheat in a scrim before that scrim against vertex and yeah i got pissed that vertex was cheating against me so i started cheating and told everyone in my channel that i was lmao. i wanted to quit dod and being banned was only thing that was going to keep me away lol. anything else you want to know fat ass just let me know thanks

My biggest influences through out my dod career were more direct influences rather than watching movies and "pro" demos.

First and foremost, my main motherfucking man Tony Compton. This man motivated me and kept me in the dod scene for as long as I was. Without Tony Compton there was never a sik. This guy could dominate a match almost by himself but he was never afraid to take a step back and 3rd rifle and lock down spots on any given map.

2nd would be trickstuf. Really taught me the ropes of higher competitive dod. Knowing when to push, frag, hold, prone, nades, ect. is what he really exposed me to. One of the best teammates a player could ask for.

3rd would have to be sparz. Our time as teammates was only one season but I really learned the quality of playing smarter and gayer in most situations.

4th would be my dude russ`. this guy was an absolute beast in any role he played. Learned how to play aggressively smart and put myself is positions to take advantage and catch the other team of guard.

5th would be ryanemo. This guy can flat out play.

Honorable mention: Dman. Introduced tony and I to cal for one season back in 04, never to be seen again after that.

I enjoyed heavying/playing with all of these guys and could not have asked for a better group to learn from. These players directly influenced my play style and I learned a ton from each one of them. Playing with people like this made the game fun and easy to learn. Can attribute all of my success in this silly game to the guys listed above. I enjoyed watching movies and demos but the influence received by playing with these guys on a day to day basis over the years had the biggest impact on myself. Good thread will read again

I started playing DoD way back in 2003. The week prior to Christmas actually, as that is when I bought my computer. The influences I had are few, but very key.

1. headlikeahole - He was probably the biggest influence on my time in DoD. For those who don't know, he is my brother. I only pubbed for like 3 months prior to the initial formation of Insomniac Gamers (.iG. at the time). That was back when invite was based on roster, and not actual skill level. By being able to play with .iG. as my first clan, I was able to skip the bullshit open/main seasons on terrible teams and hope to be noticed. We would also just sit and critique each other's demos, but mainly just show each other the insane shots we hit.

2. |NUDE|SpartaN - I was just pubbing and scimming at the time, since I was not going to be starting anytime soon in invite. Around this time, SpartaN's movie came out. I though almost every shot in that movie was insane. Also, his recoil control was the best I had seen to that point (3.1b recoil). I would dissect each shot and position to see approximately how he played each map or section of a map. Little known fact, I started out as a heavy for .iG.

3. Hn- - The single most dominant player I have ever seen play, ever, not close. I never watched old strife demos, although I did get the pleasure of being his teammate. My bro told me they were about the same dominance wise, but I still give it to Hn. All of his movies are the reason I wanted to start to rifle. Even the way he moved with the rifle, I wanted to emulate. The quick strafe stop. He had it perfected. No one else was doing what he was doing in terms of the quick strafe stop. I wanted to perfect it. They wouldn't let me rifle in .iG., so I took my first trip to main and rifled for mafia in the playoffs. Next season, I was the starting rifle for Xeno. The 3.1b and retail strafe stop are different. The retail strafe stop is much easier than 3.1b. This may sound really dumb, but leading up to CPL 05, I would watch Hn - Final Chapter prior to every match. Each time, I would pick up a little something extra that I had missed before.

4. Me - This may sound conceded, but it is true. I was a large influence on my career. I have watched more demos of myself than I have of the rest of the DoD community combined. This is not because I thought I was better than anyone and that my demo's were superior. I actually would do it to find holes in my game, and try and fix them. This is one of the reasons why when I was given the chance to play in invite, I never stopped playing in invite. Unless I chose a main team or playing with family.

Marshall_drummin- I mean, Jesus Christ, miss a shot.
Ackpth- When I first installed dod, I pubbed in a server he was in. I was so bad that he told me to uninstall the game and sell my computer. I didn't play again for like...3 years.
Miller- Took time to help a pub clan learn the ropes.
