server hosting

Post by mistadobalina »

howdy. i have decided to invest in a server, and would appreciate some input/opinions on server hosting companies. i've been looking at branzone or possibly gameservers, but if someone could steer me in the right direction it would be much obliged.

Honestly, the best option for DoD servers is still Nuclear Fallout.

Pretty much all dod servers are nfo these days, some people have routing and registration issues with them, but imo they are still the best option.

Not all nfo's are created equal. Please don't get a NY server.

Some have trouble with any of them, but it seems Denver is like you mentioned, terrible for everyone.

So far I've tried the following server hosting companies and locations

Multiplay, Herndon VI
Gameservers, Montreal QC
Hosted Game Servers, Pennsylvania PA
Art of War, New York NY
Branzone, New York NY
Branzone, Chicago IL
Branzone, Dallas TX
Nuclear Fallout, Chicago IL
Nuclear Fallout, New York NY

Now I've been very happy with NFO and have maxed out the options available there.

Just don't give any money to whoever is hosting dgf's server and you'll probably be alright.

I used to have a gameserver a few years ago, and rarely had anyone that complained about reg, it was in dallas also.
Dunno how they are now.

I currently have a nfo chicago server. I havent played on it an awful amount but havent had problems on it when i have and have heard from others that it plays well. Biggest thing is know how to set up and maintain a server and you can get a good server for pretty reasonable price. I dont know price of any others besides nfo but think its like 11$ a month for server and hltv. If you would like info to my server to try it out in scrims, or check stats on it or whatnot let me know.

from the west coast I usually get about 85/90 ping on average to Chicago cause of the terrible routing. I ping 97 to NY and about 53 for dallas.

Don't east coast players ping 20+ more or something now to chicago servers?

I think PB used to get 15 ping or something and now gets 50 and whines all the time about it. Chicago is dropping the ball!

I'm in SW Ohio and I ping low 20s to Chicago. Dallas is in the 60-70 range, but sometimes I get the terrible route. Other times its almost as good as Chicago. I'm not sure what company Avenger uses, but its a Chicago server, and I love the damn thing.

I remember when I had bad internet around the 2005-2006 time, and Chicago servers would give me 90 ping from the west coast, with a lot of spiking. Now that I have FIOS, it's more like 60-70, but the difference between a Chicago server and a Dallas server registration is like night and day still. I don't know dick about networking, but I do know Chicago is definitely dropping something!

I don't know what it is either, but it's the opposite for me. I live about an hour north of Buffalo, and I ping around 20 to Chicago, and about 50-70 to Dallas. Dallas servers feel like I have way over 100 ping, I ice skate and teleport when I get shot. It's bonkers. Oh and fuck Socal servers lol, I get around 110-120 ping to Socal.

Go central, and please avoid NFO. There seems to be enough NFO servers around; they have super questionable registration.

I like my Dallas NFO. It's supposed to be 500 fps, and you have to pay $14.99/month more to get 1000. It runs at 995-1000 fps constantly even without paying the extra. I've never had any complaints on it about ping or registration. Plus it's only $11.69/month with a free HLTV & ulimited webhosting.

im a fan of my NFO chicago. not too many ppl whine about it. the ones that do usually wind up gettng tpg banned within the same week of bitching. so its all good.
she used to be NY, and was just ill, everything hit. me and snoops had 7 to 20 ping. now in chicago its more like 30 to 40. the reg has however changed over time. ive noticed they are indeed all made differently. im going to try starting a new contract and see if theres a difference.
