The idea of double elimination is great, and obviously preferable to single elimination.

But, with the season being 10 weeks long, being delayed multiple times by holidays and what not, and the turbulence of people being less active because it's spring/summer with a few teams already not making it through the season, it doesn't seem to me like this is the best season to try and implement it.

However, I think it's worth looking at doing it in future seasons. An 8 week season (no pre-season) with a double elimination playoff would be really fun.

I also like jared's idea of doing the finals 2 out of 3.

Well, it just don't make sense for me granting the finalists the chance of maybe throwing an upset and not granting the other finalists the same rules too. Frankly, at this point of DoD, the more matches the better. Even if it turns down to more weeks of playoffs. That means more matches after all. Then, in between the semi and finals, maybe we should be organizing Fast cups for the teams who couldn't make it to later phases. There's plenty of room for doing things outside the usual. For me, double elimination doesn't make sense as well, it really makes playoffs too long (draft formula). On regards to the bo3 idea I think most of teams would be able to play a 2nd match right after their first. Judging the schedules, the majority of teams that schedule for later times are always the upper teams, not the mid/open level teams. It's not my call anyways but I'd do a bo3 with two matches played in the same day and a 3rd match, if necessary, being played during the week (we don't have any other tournament and most of the nerds show up to scrim during the week) for quarters, semis and finals. That's my 2 cents.

the ONLY plausible option at all involving double elimination is having a best of 3 final. having full double elimination playoffs, as jared and a few other people have stated already, would essentially take a typical season length and DOUBLE it. this whole idea should be squashed right now and focus should be turned on whether to have bo3 finals or not, and nothing more. though some of you may support this idea now, when it comes time to actually go through with this type of schedule I can assure you that most of you will change your stance. the initial playoff rounds should be played out as always and the finals either as a normal final or a best of 3 so that the winner doesn't get the title based on a flukey situation such as one team being better on that specific map or something. and it should be that you play the first 2 matches on that sunday night, no matter what, then if the 3rd map is necessary, it gets played the following sunday, thus extending the season by only 1 week rather than 3-9 weeks. just my 6 cents

It's still exactly the same as every other season. Two weeks preseason, eight regular, and random weeks off for holidays or sports or something else = 13 week season. In other words, this season is identical to the last except teams will go into the playoffs with ten matches in their score instead of eight.
