Help!

Post by Panzer »

Recently returned to the game and having a lot of trouble with freeze/lag spikes.

http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/4 ... t-dem.html

It mostly happens when there is a lot of gun fire close by or when nades go off.

Small test demo to show you what's happening. (I hope demos can capture the game as i see it!)

I have cleaned all parts of my PC and have ran several speed/temp tests and the CPU/GPU seem to be running within their regular operating ranges.

I have noticed my fps does not drop when the spike occurs. So my guess is that it may be a RAM issue or something?

Any help is appreciated!

panzer! why dont I have u on friends? anyway I watched the demo, are you sure it isn't a network issue? net_graph not showing any loss or choke after the spikes? are u on a wired connection?

I have a similar problem, but not quite to the same extent as yours seems to be. mine freezes for a split second once in a while, usually when a sound gets played or I'm hit by a bullet or something. it's pretty lame, given that our PC's should be more than enough to handle DoD! but it also happens in games like starcraft, if i build a barracks for the first time there's a small pause while it buffers the sound or the model. try disabling all sound in device manager and playing a bit, to see if it's a sound issue. if you suspect RAM, try doing a memtest. also try diskcheck to rule out hard drive.

actually I tried installing windows XP on my SD card, and I didn't have it with that, so it might be a windows 7 issue :/ sadly I need w7 for 64 bit other games ;P

Yep wired connection. I havnt opened any ports for the game, which could be an issue i suppose.

This is happening regularly for me. I find its guaranteed to happen if i make it to a spawn and 3-4 people come out at once. It just feels like its overloading the game. Its happening so often Im almost expecting it in certain situations now :(

I find it better if i play with a rifle from range. It tends to be close encounters that cause it. Might be a good shout with the sounds.

I dont need windows 7 for anything in particular but i dont really want to have to go back to XP for the sake of dod.

*edit* i also tried using net graph 1. The blue line on bottom of graph goes into the red at the time of a spike.

**Bleh im such an idiot, should have tried this sooner. I just tried joining an empty server and just running around the map. Happened several times. Also tried standing in spawn and it happened again. Back to the drawing board.

sounds like it's an internet issue! i dunno what the lines on net graph mean, try net_graph 3 , loss and choke should be both 0, but then spike up if it's a network issue causing your freezes. have a spec!

Does it happen all the time or only when recording a demo?

It happens all the time. Im beginning to think An1 is right with the isp. I might be getting throttled. I have installed bandwidth monitoring software. I know the limits my isp have set so i will see if i reach them.
