Re: 7 Day Juice Fast
Honestly, i think juicing isn't the best option. blending would be best. not only are you losing a lot of nutrients and valuble fiber in the pulp, but you are taking a straight cup of simple sugars which will obviously effect your insulin output. i would only recommend juicing every other day, or alternate between juicing and blending. also, juicing would be very beneficial if you are getting sick or are already sick, since the massive shot of vitamins and nutrients would be best taken advantage of when your body needs it most. otherwise, it is a little overkill to juice large amounts on a very regular basis.stile wrote:juice fasts are fine.

Don't do this unless you really like pooping

You were rolling...until you started talking about insulin, BRUH. Individual insulin spikes = meaningless, unless you're insulin resistant or diabetic or have some sort of medical condition. All that matters is the 24-hour balance. Insulin is dose-dependent and so the number of spikes in a day is irrelevant because it all balances out according to caloric/macronutrient intake. That is, if you eat 2,400 calories then your net insulin "output" will be the same regardless of numbers of meals.sevEN wrote:Honestly, i think juicing isn't the best option. blending would be best. not only are you losing a lot of nutrients and valuble fiber in the pulp, but you are taking a straight cup of simple sugars which will obviously effect your insulin output. i would only recommend juicing every other day, or alternate between juicing and blending. also, juicing would be very beneficial if you are getting sick or are already sick, since the massive shot of vitamins and nutrients would be best taken advantage of when your body needs it most. otherwise, it is a little overkill to juice large amounts on a very regular basis.stile wrote:juice fasts are fine.

But I agree with Joey. Juicing leaves out a lot of pulp, which is often where the vitamins are. Take apples: all the vitamins are in the peel, yet juicing will take a lot of the peel out of the juice itself, and so all you're getting is sugar. Blending > juicing because you are not missing anything. Juicing is a giant waste because you miss a lot of micronutrients, and it takes a ton of food to make a single cup of juice.
3 servings kale, 3 servings spinach, 2 scoops egg white protein, 1-2 scoops Green Superfood, 3 cups orange juice. Come at me brah.Sears wrote:Kale shakes every morning brehh.
Good thing orange juice covers the taste of everything...that egg white protein by itself smells awful, but all of that tastes pretty good under the guise of orange juice.
Re: 7 Day Juice Fast
Isn't a serving of spinach two cups? what do you put in a whole bag when you make a shake??? I basically try to throw spinach in any blended drink I make
Re: 7 Day Juice Fast

Is there sufficient evidence that the "green superfood" actually does something to help you?

Maybe it depends on the company and how they package it.ao_ wrote:Isn't a serving of spinach two cups? what do you put in a whole bag when you make a shake??? I basically try to throw spinach in any blended drink I make
I'm going to give you a longer answer than you want because this is an important pointzi0n_ wrote:@kirk-

Here's one of the most important facts of nutrition ever: it's impossible to judge any specific food without context/without knowing the individual's overall diet.
Is Taco Bell bad? I don't know, depends on what the rest of your day of eating + exercise looks like. Is broccoli good? I don't know, depends on what the rest of your day of eating + exercise looks like. Anything can be "healthy" or "unhealthy" depending on context. No food is inherently healthy or unhealthy because there is always a context where they can be either.
It sounds like your shake has lots of micronutrients in it, but whether it is optimal for you and your diet, I don't know! I find it hard to believe it's not doing some good for you, though!
There's sufficient evidence the micronutrients are beneficial to my diet. Come at me, brah.blech wrote:Is there sufficient evidence that the "green superfood" actually does something to help you?
Re: 7 Day Juice Fast
For sure, appreciate the advice. I think at this point I have work to do on both the diet and exercise, so the smoothie isn't going to make or break anything for me. Was mostly curious because after reading some of the worries about sugar above, adding pineapple and banana might be overkill on that front.

Re: 7 Day Juice Fast
Assuming you needthe micronutrients beyond what you would get without them, why greens over a multivitamin? I'm guessing you'll point to the evidence linking multivitamins to cancer. If so, is there reason to suggest that greens wouldn't have the same effect?kirk wrote:There's sufficient evidence the micronutrients are beneficial to my diet. Are you using one of those green superfood mixes similar to [url=http://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Grass-Gre ... zing+grass]this[/url?
