CleanDoD

Post by MagneticSkull »

Can you clarify this TPG News mention of CleanDoD being a requirement?
What is our Biggest Change?
I’d say the addition of the CleanDoD Anti-Cheat Client is the biggest change TPG is making. This will not only help the Admins and AC Admins to enforce TPG rules and catch those that are breaking them, but also help bring peace of mind to the community that more is being done to ensure fairness for everyone.
Is it required?

I'm all for an anti-cheat client, but disappointing it's Windows only since Valve is supporting Linux now.

On the plus side, every keystroke you've made since Sunday night is now safely stored on a basement server in Belgrade. Can't beat that kind of free back-up service.

The following cvars MUST use default values

gl_monolights “0″
m_pitch “0.022000″
m_side “0.8″
m_yaw “0.022″
s_a3d “0″
Lightgamma “2.5″
I understand why Tin Bad wants us to use default for the first 5 cvars.

However I don't understand why he wants us to use default lightgamma. Unless I'm mistaken, most of us have different monitors in different lighting conditions. Being able to light up the game based upon monitor brightness is essential. Can someone explain this to me?

I'll admit, I'm pretty against CleanDoD already, as I really don't want to be mining bitcoin's for foreigners. I'll use it though. I just would really like it if we didn't suddenly outlaw cvars that pretty much make the game playable on my monitor.

Over the years, lightgamma has always been illegal. It was never allowed in LAN tournaments. This is nothing new, and changing your lightgamma value has put you at an unfair advantage over those who abide by the long lasting rules and don't change it. The only thing that's new is that it now can be enforced on the internet.

Lightgamma has nothing to do with monitor brightness settings. It fundamentally changes how the game engine treats light sources. This can cause balance issues on many different maps and as a result it has been banned from competitive play since the beginning.

Unlike your desktop or monitor gamma, lightgamma makes ONLY darker places go lighter, for an example, pizza, butcher etc.

it was illegal if memory serves correct. Ppl would play with the CPL gui and no extra gamma on the internet to practice. they always tagged up with that kte "moneyb-CPLgui"

I think the limit was 1.35 gamma and some other value for brightness on your video card settings.

Aslong as all these cvars come stocked correctly with an unalterered version of DoD then im fine. I will not be checking to see if my values are correct cleaNDoD can do that.

THIS THING DOESN'T WORK ON MAC?

WHY WOULD THIS NOT SUPPORT ALL OPERATING SYSTEMS THE GAME CAN RUN ON?

I'M NOT PROUD I'M USING A MAC. BUT, THIS IS ALL I HAVE THESE DAYS.

I pretty sure there are more people who can't play this season due to cleanDOD. Do we HAVE to use it?

I'm not against using it. But, if you're going to implement a client like this, shouldn't it be supported on all platforms that are supported by the game?

I mean, this is the most half-assed thing I've ever seen.

does that matter? if you're going to REQUIRE a client to be used in conjunction with a game that can be played on multiple operating systems, it seems necessary to have it compatible with them all.

it's not fair to exclude certain parties just because they happen to be using a less popular platform. the only reason I came back to DoD, which I've played since 2004, is because I realized steam is now supported on Mac (which I'm stuck with because I don't have room in my apartment for my desktop).

It's half-assed because I've seen MULTIPLE people bitch and complain about the poor quality of the client, and now that I have seen it's not even compatible across platforms, shows me that it's a burden that was not properly built to complement the game.

Forgive me if I'm misinterpreting this exchange, but how is playing with a malfunctioning client doing anything to prevent the game from dying? I have not even tried the client yet but if it turns out to be as bad as some people are saying I would probably just save myself the hassle and not play this game in TPG anymore.

Lots of people have said that it's resulted in having to reinstall Steam and all their games, others have said it's terrible in-game, etc. If it is that bad and we are forced to play with it, there's a chance it could actually kill the game faster

But again, let me know if I'm missing something here.

In that case, I'd say using a client that flips off everyone using a Mac should not be used. Kind of makes the game less accessible.

I've seen lots of clients come and go, and they've been mostly useless. No use cutting out any portion of the community so we can watch this thing catch one or two really stupid people.

I just don't get what is wrong with screenshots and demos.

If someone's cheating it's pretty obvious. I would think there are enough people who have played this game long enough to be able to tell fairly confidently if a person is cheating.

Everytime I open cleanDOD and get through it all to the end were you click "Start Report", it opens up a new window for cleanDOD and begins making me wait the 60 seconds to start call of duty 4?

It pretty much restarts itself and doesn't let me choose the game.

Are you on windows 7? Do you see a blue and yellow shield icon on the start report button? If so, save yourself time and click the start report button right away and it will restart the program again and count down from 60. It needs administrator priviledges.

gg to gethit.

besides that, the match was horrible from my point of view. cleandod sucked major donkey dicks. i know i said some nice things about it but i take it all back.

lag spikes every 2 seconds, for up to 3 seconds at a time. multiple times i thought the server crashed or i dropped.
every time i quick switched i lag spiked each and every time.
every time an enemy became visible in my scope i lagged, once again for about a second.
i lag spiked so often that it felt like 40 fps, i couldnt even turn my mouse without lagging.
after raging some i switched to light, was easier with the constant lag spikes, but was just as intolerable.
take a watch and count to 3. enough time to fucking fap. imagine that every 2 seconds.

windows 7, i play on a laptop and i know about most of my problems. i didnt have this problem on night cup night, so ide like some help with this, if not, im not playing this season. that was intolerable. no point whatsoever of even trying.

borderlands 2, here i come.

I have a fairly good pc and I still got some random lag spikes. sometimes it was ping and sometimes fps. I dunno if its the client or what but its never happened. it could have been the map, never had this probably on the old map either.
