Am I missing something?
Sooo......cleandod? Is TPG really going to just ignore the fact that 98% of the community despises cleandod? Are you going to ignore the fact that some people literally can't get it to work, and won't be able to play? Are you going to ignore the fact that the way this is being run is threatening the livelihood of the game we all love?
We are a tiny community, all with a similar love for a classic game. Shouldn't there be a little more input from the community outside of the admins about what is best for the league -- also in terms of a realignment with the addition of IM, which pretty much all of the community is in favor of?
Maybe I've missed something, but I think it deserves some attention.

It has not been ignored at all. The survey results were overwhelmingly positive regarding CleanDOD and any issues with running it have been and will continue to be addressed on a case-by-case basis. We are working with the developer thanks to the feedback from users and already had tweaks made to the program, but it is far from our objective to keep anyone away from playing DOD in TPG.
The divisions are set with previous experience in watching teams come and go. Already since preseason, we've lost 2 teams for one reason or another. Splitting the divisions into four groups would place eight teams (if all divisions are equal) amongst those divisions thereby allowing everybody into the playoffs and completely ignoring the regular season and the % of teams that will not complete the season. As set right now, we feel the teams in main all would have a chance to at least make the playoffs without giving out participation medals to every team in each division.
We always welcome feedback. However, admins were selected for a reason - to admin. We cannot let the entire community vote for everything, and there are decisions that have to be made in a timely manner. While there will always be a few boisterous in opposition, we are comfortable with the decisions made but will continue to monitor the effects of those decisions.

Your argument would be more valid with actual statistics. An overwhelming majority of the community voted to use CleanDoDkevo wrote:Sooo......cleandod? The only people who have a problem with Cleandod are the baddies who can't play a 13 year old game and actually kill something without cheating ( NO IM NOT SAYING IM GOOD YOU RUSLTERS). I've noticed a big difference so far with the way the "overnight hero's" are suddenly taken down to their true level. Everyone (including myself) complains/bitches about people cheating and when something is done to prevent that you complain about that. I don't know what any of the issue's are that people are having with it not working, but if you do things such as screenshot the errors, let it report the errors, and talk with tpg admins or cleandod developer(s) about it you could help fix any errors with the program so everyone can play without issue. I only see this as a step forward in the community which might pull in more attention from old or non dod players. Knowing you have a client that's going to prevent cheating in any form will make people feel more comfortable about spending any amount of time on trying to improve their skill in such an old game. I like seeing all the new changes and rules for this season. its a step in the right direction just go with the flow.

This honestly makes you sound like an idiot.
Many people are having trouble with this client. Yeah, it sucks and hopefully all will be resolved but at the moment there are numerous people who never even voted for cleanDOD or voted yes before even using it. I don't like it because no matter how hard I ask the tpg admins they can't figure out my problem. And another guy on my team "kevo" can't even use the client.
I'm just thinking re-vote? I love the idea of a none cheat client but like said before it should be compatible with all platforms and systems.

Shouldn't we give it more time for people to find fixes to these problems? An anti-cheat should be viewed as a great thing even though its currently flawed. Having the piece of mind of not playing against cheaters will boost overall satisfaction,,,unless u are a cheater that is,

I did fine against dgf last week, and I'm outspoken against this client. I was having framerate and freezing issues in the match, which may or may not have been because of this client. I have godawful internet that spikes to 300 anyways, so I can't say for sure, but the idea that people are just lying about this is pretty fucking stupid, and a lack of Mac functionality makes a poor case for keeping this client.3SidedQuarter wrote:The only people who have a problem with Cleandod are the baddies who can't play a 13 year old game and actually kill something without cheating ( NO IM NOT SAYING IM GOOD YOU RUSLTERS). That being said, the admin response in this thread is mature and well-reasoned. Hopefully they can work out the kinks. Just don't make yourself look like a idiot in a tinfoil hat with brilliant "people who don't like this client cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet" arguments.

Kevo you would have been better off not getting any response from this jackoff.
The fact is the decision to use cleandod was made before this clownshoe was even named to be on tinbad's commitee of suckasses.
They have no idea how the application functions, and therefore have no control over how it disenfranchises honest players who are having trouble with it.
As a user of the software you have just as much influence on it, in regards to reporting problems with it, as these clueless idiots insisting on it's adoption do.
Furthermore they have zero control over the data that it collects on, among other things, the very processes you run on your machine (including security software), or your ip address coupled with your steamid.
It does not belong to them in any way, and they do not control this information or the client itself (let alone understand it in any way that is practical).
The truth is miller is simply going with the flow and had fuckall to do with the decision to use it (as he wasn't present for the decision to use it in the 1st place), and knows even less about what's wrong with it and how to fix it.
Alas that doesn't seem to slow his roll when suggesting you kiss his ass in an "admin" capacity as if he would be the least bit effective in any change in this matter what so ever.
You'd get just as productive a response from inviting him and his gaggle of faggots to fuck off.
Which would be my advice.

Miller, relative to most, has done an enormous amount for this community. I'd consider showing a semblance of respect and maturity toward him as, in my 4 years of knowing him, he has always had well-guided intentions. Disagreeing with him on one thing can be done in a way where the entirety of his character is not attacked. I wonder how many times you have talked in the vent which he pays for, or played on the server he pays for, without him asking for anything in return of any of us.CraftyDus wrote:![]()

All your post does is create greater hostility and force people into corners. If you want to actually sway someone's mind, don't put them in a position where they'd have to feel embarrassment to change their stance (if you tell someone they are stupid for believing something, then that person is more reluctant to change his mind because it will simply appear to verify your accusation). That is precisely what you are doing; you are actively making people more secure in their beliefs, beliefs which you claim to be doing wrong. If your intention is to change the state of things for the better, then realize you are actively doing the opposite.
Now, take the hostility out of your post and I agree with much of what you are saying. It makes me very nervous that this is something collecting data which we do not control. Perhaps it is misguided paranoia, but it still does make me nervous. I wish I knew more about the client itself, though admittedly I probably do not have the technical knowledge to make sense of it and would require someone much brighter than me to dumb it down a bit.
Beyond this ordeal, the fact of the matter is I have heard many voice complaints regarding this client. Be it the issue with Apple computers, or significant lagging in-game. I could not get mine to work because of various technical issues which I believe are sorted out now, so I am only speaking on behalf of the experience voiced by others.

Let's get more people doing this. Because if this thing is doing anything it shouldn't be doing (defined by how the program has been explained to me), consider me out of TPG.lolinus wrote:Give me source code to this ac client. And I'll check what it is really doing(if anything).

Okay, if you GOOGLE your steam id, you're 95% sure to find your IP from one of the pubs, for example AMX mod records your IP and put it up on the stats page.CraftyDus wrote: Furthermore they have zero control over the data that it collects on, among other things, the very processes you run on your machine (including security software), or your ip address coupled with your steamid.

Also, if you're worried it might be a virus or anything, install the AC, run the AC, and then give me a hijackthis log from you, and ill check it out.
Also, virus alerts, in general, if a program or any other component of a program(such as a .dll file) is trying to INTERFERE, with another program, then most AV's WILL notice it, since that is similiar to how a virus/spyware works. Very basic explanation, but yeah, it's similar.
If you're REALLY worried, or maybe one of the TPG admins, could send the AC client to a a security company, for example Kaspersky(http://support.kaspersky.com/virlab/helpdesk.html).

Absolutely. I was just saying that it doesn't seem like there has been any obvious message from the TPG admins that they were even looking into it. But, I know see that that is incorrect.
Unfortunately, it still seems as though I won't be able to play because I use a Mac. I think that's bull, but whatever, I understand that I am probably the only one who uses a Mac.

I have made a support ticket and I know it's only been a couple days. But, my reason for bringing this up is because I felt as though I was just going to be ignored since my problem stems from my use of a mac, and I'm probably the only one with this problem. And I perceive that as being a more pointless fix being that it is for a single person, as opposed to fixes that affect 99.9% of the other users. Again, because I didn't see any messages from mods saying they were even looking into anything, I got restless and made this post to try and consolidate any updates on cleandod.

I'm not sure what exactly they will tell. It is however one of the bigger security companies, and i have only positive things to say about them(Bussines-2-bussines).
As far as i can see, it will not cost anything.
If you are their customer, it will go faster though.

What you seem to be ignoring is my adamant assertion that tpg has NOTHING to do with cleandod, its functionality, or the site where it's information is collected. Furhtermore the developers who it does belong to aren't even subject to your country's laws regarding security privacy and who knows what else.lolinus wrote: Also, if you're worried it might be a virus or anything, install the AC, run the AC, and then give me a hijackthis log from you, and ill check it out.

And forgive me if I find it laughable that any honest participant in this league would surrender their security logs to the likes of you, lolinus.
If you want to use the client and are having technical issues, tpg admins know nothing that can help you. Just go to http://www.cleandod.com.br/ and ask for help yourself.
Also here's the dev privacy policy:

Re: Am I missing something?
What, exactly, do you want me to do about it? I've considered using wine. However, considering that most users are having performance issues using the client on it's native operating system, I can only imagine the way it would run through wine. I've also filed a support ticket, as I said previously.lolinus wrote:No, but you're most likely one of those users that sit on their ass and crying out loud instead of trying to do anything about it.kevo wrote:bewton wrote:Shouldn't we give it more time for people to find fixes to these problems?
Not to mention, I'm not choosing to use this. I don't cheat. I've never cheated. It's a video game that is like 20 years old, who the hell gets gratification out of cheating in a game where there are <100 people who even play. I'm being FORCED to use something that wasn't properly built to begin with. I shouldn't have to spend 10+ hours researching crap online just to get a client to work to play a video game, when it should've worked in the first place.
Do I want to try and get this to work? Yes, absolutely. But, don't turn it around on me like it's MY fault.

Maybe you should just disappear for a few months again, seems like that would be a pretty awesome event all around.

True, I'm just getting paid to work within companys IT enviroments, can't believe they'd do that. I offered my services, you denied fine.CraftyDus wrote:What you seem to be ignoring is my adamant assertion that tpg has NOTHING to do with cleandod, its functionality, or the site where it's information is collected. Furhtermore the developers who it does belong to aren't even subject to your country's laws regarding security privacy and who knows what else.lolinus wrote: Also, if you're worried it might be a virus or anything, install the AC, run the AC, and then give me a hijackthis log from you, and ill check it out.
If you're REALLY worried, or maybe one of the TPG admins, could send the AC client to a a security company, for example Kaspersky(http://support.kaspersky.com/virlab/helpdesk.html).

And forgive me if I find it laughable that any honest participant in this league would surrender their security logs to the likes of you, lolinus. Also here's the dev privacy policy:
What you are failing to understand, is basic bussiness. IF THEY ARE EARNING MONEY ON A PRODUCT YOU SURE AS SHIT WOULD NOT THROW THAT AWAY JUST TO GET A FEW GAMERS PERSONAL INFORMATION. Also, you can press charges in a different country, i aint a lawyer, so someone else should break that point down for you.
You just seems to dislike TPG.
@kevo, YOU HAVENT EVEN TRIED IT.

Re: Am I missing something?
What about my posts has seemed emotional or illogical? I have asked others smarter than me to look into it, and have said that IF it is doing something it shouldn't be then I would not participate in TPG any longer. I am not making declarations so much as posing hypotheticals. There's nothing irrational about that.defiance wrote:come on kirk, you are one of the most logical thinking persons on this board, why the sudden emotional illogical paranoia? cass was pushing this on me for seasons and as a result ive had one version or other installed on both my computers for over a year. all my money is still in my bank account, my SS# has not been stolen, my computer has not been hijacked. what evil mastermind would target the dod and dods communities. the source kids have been using this for awhile not, maybe talking to crono or whomever could alleviate your symptoms.
Linus said he would be able to assess the program more specifically, and I think there's nothing wrong with going that route.
So, tell me, what's the first step in looking into the safety of this program?lolinus wrote:True, I'm just getting paid to work within companys IT enviroments, can't believe they'd do that. I offered my services, you denied fine.

Re: Am I missing something?
no one's going to be handing out source code to a proprietary program lol
particularly for things like AC clients which have traditionally relied on security by obscurity

I think, what'd be best since apparently the program is not open source, and there's no way to get it. The easiest would be to send it in to kaspersky.
I'll download the client and mess around with it.

Re: Am I missing something?
This idea is pretty much a waste of time. The guaranteed answer from ANY reputable anti virus company is that this program (cleandod) is completely unsafe. Look at the information the program sends out. Process information, hardware information, IP address, etc.lolinus wrote:I'm not sure what exactly they will tell. I would assume they'd do a regular file analysis and then say "we do not believe this to be harmfull but we cannot guarantee".kirk wrote:Without reading the site, does this cost anything? And what information will they tell you regarding the program, exactly?lolinus wrote: If you're REALLY worried, or maybe one of the TPG admins, could send the AC client to a a security company, for example Kaspersky(http://support.kaspersky.com/virlab/helpdesk.html).

It is however one of the bigger security companies, and i have only positive things to say about them(Bussines-2-bussines).
As far as i can see, it will not cost anything.
If you are their customer, it will go faster though.
The thing that inevitably makes me uncomfortable is the sending of process information. Every process that accesses the Internet uses a port. If that process has some sort of security loop hole it can also be attacked on that port and from there a range from nothing to a lot of bad shit can happen. Sending out the processes running on a computer doesn't make it any easier to access but it does cut out a lot of the guess work as to which process to attack.
In my opinion, per the information that has been provided, cleandod isn't doing anything unnecessary. The only thing I really don't understand is why they need to know anything about the hardware in our computers. Obviously we need process information to find out who's running imadouchebag.exe. Equally as obvious we need screenshots, cvars, configs, etc.
Bottom line is:
You don't use cleandod and play with cheaters
OR
You let cleandod molest your computer and even so will still probably end up playing with cheaters

Download Process Monitor, run it and launch cleandod. Filter to cleandod. You'll see exactly what it's doing and what IP addresses it is talking to.
