Let's talk supplements

Post by Jstampz »

I've recently began using Optimum Nutrition's HydroBuilder protein powder along with their Platinum pre-workout. The protein actually tastes amazing and the flavor "Rasberry Lemonade" tastes great as well. I also take creatine sold by walmart.

I use to take the GNC brand Amplified Wheyobolic 60 Performance protein and it tasted like ass. I also use to take c4 and holy shit, that stuff does in fact work but I didn't feel safe using such a powerful pre-workout supplement.

Any impressive supplements you guys know of?

Also, Amazing Grass super greens supplement

Now Kirk comes into the thread and says you're wasting money.

Instead of supplements I think you should be talking lifts, form, and progress.

Also, coffee is the cheapest pre workout there is. C4 wakes you up but what it does can be achieved by a cup of black coffee.

Matt has it right, all you need is coffee and a decent meal before working out. I have a buddy who takes preworkout and he says his legs tingle when doing pullups... I will pass. Jared is young and still a product of marketing.

I have never believed in supplementing though, I figure when you stop, so will your gains.

Pre- workout: 1-2 bananas and almonds.

Post- workout: Breakfast and a 950mg softgel of Omega- 3 Fish Oil.

All you really need is a healthy diet and lots of water.

Any basic whey will do. Find a cheap whey that has good flavor and that's all. Fish oil as well as a pro biotic and creatine if you want. Keep supplementing simple. Spend your money and focus more on actual food

I'm not trying to get huge but I have started taking supplements and I hope I'm not being retarded because this is the first time I have ever done it.

I got a huge thing of whey powder with only protein really, no sugar, low carbs, no sodium, etc. Oh and it tastes like ass but there is no artificial sweetener or anything of that nature just whey.

My friend recommended using corteine or whatever it's called only for a month because I'm raising my intake of protein outside of what I'm used to.

I'm right now on the end of week 4.

week 1 I took 3 5 gram tea spoons of creatine and 3 scoops of protein a day (so three shakes, one breakfast one two hours before work out and one after work out)
Breakfast is wheat cereal with bananas and 3 egg whites with veggies + shake
Lunch is pasta bread etc
two or a hour before work out shake
Post work out chicken/beef/fish + salad and shake

week 2-4 10 grams of creatine and still 3 shakes. I started eating more bananas and fruit and pasta for lunch 3 hours before work out.

I do rugby practice for a hour a half two times a week (shit kicks my ass)
and I'm in the gym 4 days out of the week and I run atleast 20 km a week (5km under 25 mins) and then I do high reps of normal weights when I lift

I drink at least 4 liters of water throughout the day usually around 5.

oh I fucking was pissing out my ass for the first two weeks. I read that it was my body getting used to the higher amount of protein.

You're wasteing protein. Your body can only take in roughly 30 grams of protein in a given time frame. From your diet it seems you get a good amount just from food alone. If I were you I'd stay on the same regimen just find a better tasting, lower protein filled powder. 3 times a day is a little much if you're using a protein like I use to use with 50+ grams in it.

If your protein powder only has 30-40 grams than bravo my friend. Your water intake is steady and creatine always helps.

Do you have a source for that? I'm pretty sure this has been proven to not be true.

You can google "protein absorption myth" and see a lot of people saying the opposite of what you did.

I used to love that show, John I have no idea how I loved that show after watching that clip. I mean they were like throwing sperm balls at eachother. If you close your eyes as you listen to it, it just sounds so gay. I mean I was 13 or whatever when I was into it when cartoon network hat that toonami thing going out. But shit that was awesome and cringe worthy

Stile, I recently read it in Men's health magazine.

It said your body can only take up to 30 grams every 4-5 hours. So as I was saying is he had some giant ass 60+ gram powder then he'd be wasting some of that protein. I'm a firm believer in the concept of 30 grams every 4-5 hours.

I do like the 24 gram protein you are using 3 times day. If you miss a meal or maybe a shake I would look into a slow digesting protein like Casein protein. You take a shake before bed so you are getting protein to your muscles all through the night. Optimum nutrition makes a really good pure Casein protein.

Keep on lifting brah

When more than 30-35 grams of whey is used at one time, it is absorbed too quickly, and what the body cannot assimilate for tissue repair is oxidized for energy. If you don't work it off, it ends up around the old waistline. The latest research has found that more whey protein is oxidized for energy than was first thought. Most people should limit their intake of whey at a single sitting to approx 30 grams. Again these numbers are quite arbitrary, and everyone will respond differently. Mixing whey with milk, adding peanut butter or flax will probably help some, though it won't help as much as some people might think.

please god do not keep going around telling this to your friends and on the internet. it is simply not true. it is the wide spread of misinformation like this among the sports/fitness/supplement/nutrition industry that causes nobody to know wtf to believe.

The point is that you read an article in a magazine and then assumed you were qualified to give advice to other people based on such. It has already been stated that that is why there is so much misinformation being spread around.

drink apple juice nerd you will grow big and strong

edit: but seriously; I don't know a whole lot about bodybuilding and I'm probably the last person to talk to about it, but my father use to do German Volume Training and told me quite a bit about it. I don't think it's a good idea for someone your age (15/16?) to be overwhelming yourself with a lot of body building, your body is probably not fully developed. And I doubt there is a "best supplement"; there is no supplement shortcut that will get you huge. I'd just wait a couple of years and then try to get into it and you should be gaining muscle more when you grow older.

You're a fucking RETARD, I'm doing exactly what everyone else is, trying to give information. Yeah maybe you may not like what I think and what I believe but I truly do believe and average males body can only take in 30-40 grams in a certain time frame. If you think about it, this makes sense, your body needs the time to digest and send protein to the muscles. I think 60 grams is a waste unless you are gonna spread it out in X amount of hours.

This just ins't true, and its a common myth in the bodybuilding/supplement industry. What's funny about it is that most people who fall for this are under the impression that it's a "30 gram" cap, in that your body "can only digest 30 grams of protein within a certain time period", when in fact the original myth was that your body only digests "30 percent of the protein you eat per meal."

Seriously though, neither of this things is true. Every body is different and every body consumes, digests, and makes use of macro nutrients differently, but the idea that you "can only absorb 30 grams of protein at a time" is a just a simple marketing gimmick designed to encourage customers to consume more product, and thus, end up buying more frequently.

I know it seems counter-intuitive, but it's worth assuming that the vast majority of the information that the bro's at GNC and VitaminShoppe like to drop while you're browsing through their store is most likely utter bullshit and is only intended to entice you into purchasing products.

As far as supplements go, a high quality multi-vitamin is ok, but ins't totally without risks, and recent research as shown that high levels of things like Vitamin E can increase your risk of developing prostate cancer. A high quality protein supplement for post-workout is really all that you should ever need, especially at your age.

I use Animal Pak, Animal Flex, and Optimum Pro Complex (but only because I get a discount).

Stop training like a pussy and eat some goddamn hamburger helper, wuss.
