HALP: Headset

Post by Nicholson »

Hey guys,

As we know 'tis the season! Most of the family members outside immediate family usually just give me gift cards or money and with that I plan on dropping some money on a actual headset. Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of brands/models? What to look for in one? What to stay away from? Any help would be awesome!

Happy Holidays & Cheers,

Nicholson

I've always liked the $50 and up plantronics gamecom headsets. their cheapo models always broke on me for no reason. I like my gamecom 777's. comfy, hear everything loud and clear in good quality and don't look ridiculous:

Buy headphones + mic instead for a gaming headset.

My 2 cents

i've been thinking about a new headset as well. did quite a bit of reading and there are too many opinions.

still not sure if a higher end "7.1/5.1 surround sound" headset is worth it. like the razer tiamat/kraken or gamecon 780. or if you should just get a decent headset and go for a nice soundcard instead.

at the moment my gamecon 377 do well. like dat xero said they did break kinda easily but still comfy to wear with some tape :). plus with something like the razer surround sound program they do a pretty good job of creating virtual surround sound to me.

never could bring myself to do this but it's something else I read. some of the outstanding sound only headphones do the absolute best for situational positioning.

you don't need sound to see through walls, go with ear buds.

This is pretty much the best headset you can get under 300 bucks, however what john said it true, getting headphones and a separate mic will generally get you a MUCH better set of cans for a decent bit less than an equivalent headset. Also BUDGET PLEASE SIR!

I have a cheap $40 logitech headset with no mic, great for player positioning like red said.

hmmm. I didn't put too much thought into it, but I was hoping somewhere in/around the area of 100. Being a college student and having to pay my own way, I was hoping to not spend $300 (though those headsets do like kinda nice lol)

For your money.

My sage rock solid advice is do not buy a fucking gaming headset mic/headphone combo from some fucking gaming peripheral company.

Buy a real pair of headphones from a real fucking audio gear lab/company.
Pay attention to the frequency response specs (wider is better)

Hear dog whistles like a fucking boss.

four examples in your price range.

Then buy a real mic from a real fucking microphone lab/company.

Sound like fucking velvet throated god.

Yeah ive heard that buying a good pair of headphones and buying a mic separate is the way to go. I bought this headset over a year ago and not to happy with em so stay away from this head set. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6826816027

Ive always heard that the audio technica ad700 headphones are great. Wish I would have spent the extra 20 or 30 for em instead of getting a full headset which I'm now having problems with my mic on my corsair's. Mic's are usually the first thing to go on a headset that's why just buying headphones and a mic separately is the way to go. Hope this helps Dicholson!

Like external said about the K-701 is true. I loaned a pair from my friend to play with under a few days when he was on vacation. Enjoyed every minute of playing MW3 and BF3. Will probably buy a pair of these or the Audio Technica AD700x when my g930 stops working(again)
