dod draft?

so i saw that dod tournament thread and i thought of this idea. make a dod draft, have a quick sign up on some site where people can sign up to play. out of those list of people a few are selected as a captain to draft and picks are then allowed (do it over vent whatever). btw i never see this idea happening, but its still an idea im throwing out there. you can even have a lot of fun if you make 4 teams and do a quick bracket

did you have a great idea? i find it unlikely that you and the people in the other thread happened on this idea simultaneously and independently. however, if you make it happen everyone will remember you and not that other thread, just like einstein and the theory of special relativity.

me and bromley were talking about this the other day in vent. random captains, pick teams, and play a season out like that.

You'd have to determine everyone's skill level first. I figured what you could do is just have random 12mans and then keep track of the K:D ratio of each player. Total the kills, minus the deaths, and then times by 100. That would represent the players skill level. For the draft, it might be more fair if players have to choose from the bottom of the list so that good players are picked last.

I love that this community is still trying to bring more leagues, new players, and lans together. But after a while you have to stop, take a look around, and be realistic.
Dod is an old game. You're not going to attract new players, the best luck you're going to have is converting casual pubbers into pub clan players. Even then once they get into the leagues, better teams sandbag into the lower levels and stomp the shit out of these pubbers while spamming voice_areaclear.
The tournament idea is cool, but I don't see it working unless you spread the games out, most likely on a weekly schedule. (which just makes it another league) Teams don't even show up to TPG matches half the time, so to expect several teams to have 6 players on over a 2-3 day period to compete for bragging rights...

Focus on what we have. Work on making TPG better, get some good admins who are not going to be biased and still have the time to invest in a league. Encourage the new players, they're the only hope this community has for staying afloat. This community has never been supportive of new members, but at this point in time, you guys need to be teaching them how to play and get better. Take out the sand baggers, and merge the SA teams with equal skill into the lower division so they can get some real practice and have fun.

I dont think anyone really expects for there to be new players.. The tournament would just be a way to mix things up. Some people get tired of playing with the same team over and over but don't have the heart to leave their team to make another. You think THUNDER would break up their team for a league? Probably not. For a tournament that spans a few weeks? Maybe.

The whole idea has a lot of problems, if anything it's just something to talk about. It's probably never going to happen.

Yeh I pretty much won the finals for us, and we all recieved a free pack of bawls! I think Max and I had like 70 frags per half for each of our teams. Were you on our team mogers? I Wanna say you were, but the only 2 people I can remember was Spartan and silly ass jello, man I miss that kid.

james, its not going to be a week long thing. i honestly only see a draft lasting a few matches. it only takes one person to rage quit and ruin everything. what if players end up on a team with people they hate, they'll cry and ruin it. the fundamental of this idea sounds so much fun, but so did Communism

we need someone that has enough time to run this. it would also probably be easiet if its run off of the tpg or dcn site, even tho if it could be run off of this site the longevity of the event would be extended im sure. either way im down. someone set it up.

Actually this would be a great time to do it since tpg playoffs are winding down almost every team has a long interim between now and the launch of either the next tpg season or whatever the "happenings" are. As miller said, this would require one or two weeks tops, although a one to three night draft+tourney would be ideal.

If you think about it this really doesn't have to be much more than a few 12 mans strung together in tournament format. The actual draft shouldn't take more than an hour once captains are picked and the sign ups are completed. First order of business is making a sign ups page or thread so we can get a definite list of draftees.

Said the sqame thing to Alex about a month ago, with this new Esl or even tpg/DCN we could have a draft. You pick, the worst players in dod go first. Or another way of choosing who gets first, I thinkd it be best if we put it in worst to best point of view like Football (no lock outs)
I hear a new league. We have plently of players here and I think it would be a fun thing to do on a Friday Night Saturday night or Sunday afternoon. DOD Picks League, that would be my name for it, I mean I doubt ESL with really become popular and it seems like a fair amount of people want to play. BUT we could aslo turn this to the DCN admins for next season, I notice they have a free agents in the culumn. This could be really fun for newer players or even okish players. It would suck if you did get on a team with me or a lower pub kid who doesnt know how to make an account on 1911 or some shit but Tough it out be serious and have fun with this game, Don't be like Dpk (no offence) but dont be like them and zook eachother in spawn for 30 minutes vs winnfield.
Or we can have a summer league set aside from the DCN and TPG "DEAD PERIOD" and play in our spare time. You have a team of 7-8 players 1-2 for back up. it would be the captains choice on which league you APPLY for, as in your not gunna get upper with a team like 475th, If you have good skill you can be put in that division and so on. I mean I think its a great idea to make this into a DCN or even TPG style league.
PS. Everyone plays, we dont just make a bunch of allstar teams. Because I know jules or someone wont like me or antoher player and just pass and leave us for Free Agents. But I think everyone should have a team or be a captain of a team, like get a count of all the players who want a team then give the amount of cpatains we would need to get all fo them on a team of 7-8

Also, draftees would need to list what class they play and need to be committed to showing up since there's no injured reserve list in the National Dawd Association. 7 players per team should be ideal with a blind draw double elimination tournament. Looking at the TPG site, there seems to be about 100 or so active players. Let's say we have 98 total eligible players, that means there would be 14 teams with 14 captains who would need to be present together to do the draft. That should be ok because there are usually at least that many ppl circle jerking in the winnfield vent

A 14 team tournament requires either 26 or 27 total matches depending on the outcomes so this would need to be multi day event. Obviously the number of teams might not be 14 but there needs to be the corresponding amount of captains available at the same time for a smooth draft since there's no player seeding (I'm sure jaggon thinks he should be first regardless :p). There's no harm in trying! GLHF

if you need someone to start taking PM's and making a list I suppose people can start messaging me and letting me know and I'll keep it posted. But first we would have to set up a cut off date and set a legit date to actually play it, so it's not just people messaging me saying they want to play, me making a list, THEN us trying to set everything up and having everyone end up losing interest because they're waiting around for nothing.

realistically, pretty much everyone can use any gun (at least i'd like to think so) except for maybe snipers? (here's looking at you bullgooseloony) but if you insist on trying to categorize everyone we can get groups going of heavies, rifles (kar/gar), 3rd(gar/whatever), snipers. and if that's what you wanted to do then just simply could PM me with your name then weapon of choice.

up to you guys, i don't really care who starts taking names im just throwing myself out there to do it if we need someone to get that part of it going.

I can be a captain as much as jules can. Atleast I dont whine every twelve man about how everyones retarded so quit dishing on me and stamp cause its a game and if you are better then us who cares I have a life besides sitting here on a damn computer. Anyways, I still think everyone who signs up has to be picked just to make it fair, everyteam should have atleast 1 lower- Middle player on there team. You can have a sign up sheet, Everyone send me a messsage if you want to play I can start the sign up sheet.
And it has to be FUN for everyone so if we do have some okish cpaotains then everyone can be picked and play. Its not league of Allstars so Im sorry id you get put on a bad team just suck it up and play itll make you look better if you just shut up and play with that bad team.

i mean i can see where you're coming from with that but all this really is, is a gigantic 12man just in tournament form and a little more organized. just intended to be a little bit of fun so i don't really see how this could affect anything, then again i also don't really know what's going on so for all i know it could somehow affect it. just my view of it all

edit: i guess it's got a little nostalgic value to it is well as i'm sure there's some of us who remember the olden days of watching HLTV's of matches for a long period of the day and whatnot

I would like to practice with my team and play a couple weekends not just one.
