I saw that, yeh, not surprised since the game had a massive playerbase at its peak. I have no idea if valve is planning to do a DoD sequel, they keep their cards very close historically. Even if they did make a sequel, I wouldn't have high hopes that they would make a game that was competitively viable.

I was thinking recently how easy it would be to make an FPS using one of the modern engines e.g. unreal engine 4 which just came out. These engines are so polished and user-friendly that I don't even think it would be a huge task. Implement a flag-capture system like dod, mimic the recoil system, re-do a few classic maps. It could even be WWI themed if there were some talented model-makers involved.

Give them different division patches, fatigues, and let them stick a card in their helmet. The realism crowd would shit their money all over that.

If they gave DoD the same treatment as they gave CS:Go, we might have something. Otherwise, you can just expect another DoD:Source that's terrible in a competitive setting.
