League Night Poll

In light of the addition of ESL, we need to try and get an idea of what nights of the week people would like to play from this point forward. With a community as small as ours, and as we have observed with the trial addition of DCN, it will be difficult to pull off two-match night weeks if we are not all on the same page.

The current discussions have led many to believe that a setup similar to the old days of TPG Sunday and CAL Wednesday might suit us well. But, I'd like to open up this poll to find out what will actually work best for the majority of the community.

Please leave any constructive comments as well. I'd like to gather as much input as we can, so please forward this thread to as many you know that still play or plan on playing next season.

One league forces teams to be more stable and stay together and not die if they lose a freaking match and ragequit.
One league makes scrimming more easy. Having to deal with different rosters and different people's schedules is a pain. Its hard enough to get people to want to play us on default on sundays as it is.
One league forces ALL teams to join that league, and makes sure we represent well since it would be ESL. They're giving us a shot and showing up without the pub clans and other teams would just look bad.
The game is old. Stop pretending like it needs more than 1 league.

Thing that sucks for me is that I can't play at all on Wednesday nights. Tuesday or Thursday would work for me much better than even Monday's. But that's just me.

I don't know about other pub clans, but I don't think we could field a team twice a week for 2 leagues... whatever league we choose I vote make it sunday as most are already used to being ready for a match on that day.

I have nothing against TPG, but I think ESL is a better move for the community as it is more exposure even if that doesn't translate to more teams signing up, i think it will keep the teams that do play at it longer.

I think it's going to be difficult to get pub clans to adopt ESL right away. The website itself will probably be pretty intimidating. In the event that TPG sticks around, I can see it as being a more relaxed league that teams use to prepare for that upcoming weeks ESL match.

ESL I see as being a smaller league, at least at the beginning, with probably just the current Upper and a few of the Lower teams participating.

That really doesn't matter. As long as you have enough teams to have a balanced season (16 minimum), you can make it work. It's just important that all of those teams actually actively play their matches.

I think ESL becomes the go to league for teams that are still serious about competing, but I don't think it defaults as the most important league for the WHOLE community before a single match is played. I think that takes a season or two.

In my experience, this community is brutally resistant to change (even if it is change they want, or have asked for).

i think we can pull off 2 leagues....just a matter of making ESL (which i think we can all agree SHOULD end up being the more prioritized league) be played on a more reasonable day (like sunday: much agreed sunday has become "DoD's day") BUT with that being said....idk about other teams but I know thunder likes to reschedule our match days/times because of gingers work sched. so in reality, as long as there is a deadline for the matches to be played, i think realistically the "primary" day of matches could be any as long as you can schedule the match for anytime within that week of matches and in some circumstances possibly within 2 weeks of the scheduled day.

but in terms of having more then 1 league i definitely think we can pull it off. as sears said, it will definitely be a little difficult to get pub clans into ESL off the bat, but if we disband TPG then we're gonna lose potential teams to end up playing in ESL down the line. my vote is really just pick 2 days to establish the matches to "officially" be played on,(sundays and wednesdays or tuesdays work well) but allow teams to schedule the match to anytime within that week before the next weeks match.

There is one main item that keeps me from playing competitively at the moment. It is that the match times are too late on Sunday due to the fact that I have to be at work by no later than 11pm EST. I have about a 40 min drive down into the city to work; so I have to leave no later than 10:15 pm. I tried it out for a bit and it just frustrated me that there wasn't any good conceivable way for me to play unless matches were on my off days. ESL on Wed/Thurs (my off days) works perfectly. I hate the fact that I have to be a roster rider with A SLIGHT CHANCE to play in a match if the time wasn't pushed back past default.

What sucks about DCN is that there is one division, which I can obviously understand. Two divisions for ESL is a must in my eyes. Personally I'm not upper material and probably never will be. I just don't have enough time to really work myself to that level. I had to bail from Sean's team for that reason and the one stated above; I just wasn't able to be an asset. So I voted for TPG on Sundays and ESL Wed/Thurs.

Personally I would like to keep playing TPG and have been working on getting more pub teams to join for next season. Whatever happens, happens - but if TPG becomes the 2nd league, I dont want to see teams sign up and not play just because its the secondary league.

I Like the idea of ESL being played 2 nights a week, Makes for long/shorter seasons which ever way you want to look at it. Maybe get to play every teams twice in a season (1 home 1 away) or get a regular 8 week season finished in a month.

Just a thought - shouldn't your "main" league, the one you want to have the most active results with matches played, should be played on your strongest night.

So, if 99% of you can show up on Sunday, then if you want ESL to succeed to have 2 leagues, then that should be ESL night. TPG will be there regardless, and that's the safety net. Therefore, to ensure ESL succeeds, then you guys need to figure out what night is going to work the best of the week as if it was the only night.
