OLD demos crash

Post by An1maL »

yo trying to watch some old demos, circa 2003-2004 (http://archives.nineteeneleven.org/Demo ... 20SOE).zip specifically), using that coL demo player which is supposed to be good for old versions. it fires up fine for a while and then crashes about 1 minute in.

anyone know how to fix this?

if nobody knows how to fix would someone mind downloading it and seeing if they can get more than a few mins in, so I know if it's just me?

I think the coL player only works with 1.3 and not any of the previous versions, 1.2, 1.1 etc if thats the time the demos are from

I've had that happen and the solution for me was to skip past the point it crashed at.

Using Playdemo instead of Viewdemo helps for me sometimes.

hmmm if I skip forward to some random point it works again for like 10 seconds but then will just crash. judging from the lineups I think it could be from 2003-2004 meaning it could be v1.2 or even 1.1, which could explain why it's crashing :P

soooo, anyone know how to play demos from old dod versions, or where to download the old versions? dod y u no backwards compatible :x

Use mirv Brock. Go to the tools menu and there is a tool to fix demos. I believe they update mirv more then that col player so it may be a solution for you. Use that program to launch your demo as well.

good call brandon but it still crashes after 'fixing' the demos with HLAE :<

must be unplayable without the old dod version I guess

If you can, find the old .gcf from 1.2 or 1.1 and use gcfscape to unpack to a custom mod folder and run the demo from your custom dod executable. I think that's about the only way to do it, not even sure it will still work because of HL engine updates since then. Getting old HL executables is probably damn near impossible.
